HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. (July 20, 2013) – Championships were decided in the boys’ under-15 and girls’ and boys’ under-17 (U17) divisions on Saturday at the 2013 USA Volleyball Beach High Performance Championships (Beach HPC) in Hermosa Beach, Calif.

In boys’ U15, Luke Grafton (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) and Dane Johnson (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) earned gold after a 21-11, 21-18 victory over Logan Glave (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) and Niko Forbes (Manhattan Beach, Calif.).

“We got the best of them in the first game but then they kind of came back on us in the second,” Johnson said. “But we still ended up winning, so we’re pretty happy about that.”

Grafton and Johnson finished the tournament with a perfect 8-0 record, while Glave and Forbes went 6-1.

Claiming bronze was the duo of Luke Salm (Trinity, Fla.) and Ethan Shinn (Wellington, Fla.), with a record of 4-5.

“The big thing that I thought was working was that we had really good serving, and it disrupted their passing,” Albert said. “It felt really good.”

Kos and Albert went 8-0 to win the tournament. Yoshimoto and Skinner finished with a 7-1 record.

The team of Jacob Brantley (Ashburn, Va.) and Taylor Ho (Foster City, Calif.) netted bronze with a record of 6-2.
