WNT A2 Roster and Schedule

Wicinski Family (L-R): Mother Gina Wicinski, Lauren Wicinski, Jessica Wicinski, Kelsey Wicinski and father Rob Wicinski

DALLAS (July 1, 2013) - Lauren Wicinski (Geneva, Ill.) is one of 47 college athletes participating in the 2013 U.S. Women’s National Volleyball A2 Program (WNTA2). But she isn’t the only Wicinski girl competing at the Dallas Convention Center this week. In fact, she’s one of four.

This morning, Lauren was court-side watching her two younger sisters, Jessica (18) and Kelsey (16), play with their Kane County Juniors club team in the 18 USA division of the 2013 USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships while her mother Gina coached the squad.

“We’re definitely a volleyball family,” Lauren said. “My mom played college volleyball for Northern Illinois. We grew up going to adult tournaments and watching her. I just loved being around the sport all the time.”

Lauren played her first organized team volleyball when she was in seventh grade, but she and her sisters have been around the game for as long as they can remember.

“We used to pepper in our garage in the winter,” Lauren said. “We’d play every chance we got and always go watch my mom play.”

When Lauren finally started having matches of her own, she had a loyal fan squad in the stands cheering her on.

“My two sisters were at almost all of my games,” Wicinski said. “They got dragged to the gym all the time to watch.”

The youngest Wicinski girls weren’t just there cheering Lauren on. They were soaking in every rally and learning by watching.

“My youngest sister (Kelsey) has a crazy volleyball IQ,” Wicinski said. “She knows so much about the game. She’d come up to me after a high school match and be like ‘you should have hit more line.’ She’d just picked up on things I definitely wasn’t picking up on when I was her age.”

Their love of the game has prompted all three Wicinski girls to dream college volleyball. Lauren currently plays for Michigan State University, and Jessica will be a freshman for Quincy University this fall.

Despite her young age, Kelsey is already getting college looks as well.

“I think for all of us, we just want to keep playing any way we can,” Lauren said. “That’s what it really is about. From playing in our yard, to playing in college to playing with this A2 team, it is all about playing as much as we can for as long as I can. I know my sisters feel the same.”
