COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 16, 2013) – The 2013 USA Volleyball Open National Championships, which takes place May 24-29 at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center in Louisville, Ky., is now accepting registrations and general hotel bookings.

This year’s USA Volleyball Open National Championships will offer a sitting volleyball division open to both genders and athletes of all physical abilities and take place May 27-28.

As part of the major changes in 2013, the competition for most divisions has been reduced from a four-day format to a three-day format, including Club A, Club BB, Club B, Masters and Seniors Divisions. Competition will remain the same with pool play, challenge round and elimination round. The Gold Flight will have a maximum of 4-6 teams in a double-elimination round, while all other flights will be single elimination.

This event also employs USA Volleyball’s Stay and Play policy for hotel lodging. Rooms can be booked by clicking here. For additional details on hotel bookings and the policy, click here.

USA Volleyball will showcase its USA Volleyball Open National Championships for the 84th year. Except for 1943 and 1944 during the height of World War II, the Open has been a mainstay celebrating adult volleyball nationally. The event is one of the largest national championships in any sport in the United States, and the Open has featured the sport of volleyball from coast-to-coast.

With an estimated 550-plus teams and 6,000-plus players arriving into Louisville, the USA Volleyball Open National Championships are projected to occupy more than 12,000 room nights at area hotels.

Louisville has hosted several USA Volleyball national championship events, including the 1937 USA Volleyball Open National Championships. Louisville hosted the USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Invitational Championships in 2002 and 2005. The USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships were also held there in 2000, 2002 and 2005.

Anyone in search of an adventure in Louisville would enjoy a day trip to Mammoth Cave National Park, the longest cave in the world. The home city of the Kentucky Derby has much history about the horse race. An outing with the kids could include trips to the Muhammad Ali Center and the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory. Louisville also offers a variety of elegant cuisine, as well as comfort foods to meet everybody’s tastes.
