U.S. Men's Update: Poland Finishes Regular Season
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 11, 2013) – All the news about U.S. men’s volleyball players in the U.S. and around the world.

U.S. middle blocker Russell Holmes (Fountain Valley, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and Jastrzębski Węgiel defeated Wkręt-met AZS Częstochowa, 25-17, 25-14, 25-21 on Feb. 11. Holmes scored five points on two attacks and three blocks. Jastrzębski Węgiel finished the regular season in second place with a 13-5 record.
In the final match of the regular season, U.S. outside hitter Paul Lotman (Lakewood, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and his Polish league team Asseco Resovia Rzeszow defeated Lotos Trefl Gdańsk, 25-16, 21-25, 25-13, 25-17 on Feb. 10. Lotman played as a substitute and did not score. Resovia Rzeszow finished the regular season in fourth place with a record of 12-6. To view photos from the match, click here.

U.S. opposite Brook Billings (Santa Barbara, Calif.), a 2004 Olympian, and Istanbul BBSK fell to Galatasaray, 25-22, 25-15, 25-23 on Feb. 9. Billings led his team with 16 points on 14 attacks (58.3 kill percent, .458 hitting efficiency) and two blocks.
U.S. setter Donald Suxho (Korce, Albania), a 2004 and ’12 Olympian, and his Argentina league team Drean Bolívar went 1-1 last week. On Feb. 7, Bolívar fell to Boca Río Uruguay Seguros, 28-26, 33-31, 23-25, 20-25, 20-18. Suxho started the first and fifth sets and substituted in the second and fourth. He scored four points on four kills and also helped set the team to 49.4 kill percent and a .419 hitting efficiency. On Feb. 9, Bolívar came back to defeat UNREF Voley, 25-19, 25-23, 25-18. Suxho started all three sets and scored five points on four attacks and one ace. He set the team to a 51.9 kill percent and a .444 hitting efficiency.
U.S. middle blocker David Smith (Saugus, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and the French league team Tours defeated U.S. opposite Carson Clark (Santa Barbara, Calif.), libero Alfee Reft (Oxnard, Calif.) and Montpellier, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20 on Feb. 9. Smith did not play in the match. Clark started the first two sets and scored eight points on seven attacks and one ace. Reft was credited with 24 receptions, 50 percent positive.
U.S. outside hitter Robert Tarr (Cape Canaveral, Fla.) and middle blocker Matt Rawson (Los Angeles) and Cannes defeated Paris, 30-28, 25-17, 25-18 on Feb. 10. Tarr scored nine points on nine attacks (64.3 kill percent, .429 hitting efficiency). Rawson added six points on four attacks (57.1 kill percent, .571 hitting efficiency), one block and one ace.
The French league team Toulouse, including U.S. opposite Evan Patak (Pleasanton, Calif.) and middle blocker Andy Hein (Carol Stream, Ill.), fell to Chaumont, 29-27, 25-17, 25-17 on Feb. 9. Patak led his team with 12 points on 12 attacks (50.0 kill percent, .458 hitting efficiency). Hein added seven points on four attacks (57.1 kill percent, .429 hitting efficiency), one block and two aces.
In France’s B league, AS Orange Nassau, including U.S. libero Dustin Watten (Long Beach, Calif.) and outside hitters Damien Scott (Santa Ana, Calif.) and Eric Vance (Camarillo, Calif.) fell to Nancy, 21-25, 16-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-12 on Feb. 9. Vance finished with 13 points on nine kills and a match-high four blocks. He was credited with 21 receptions, 81 percent positive. Scott added nine points on seven attacks and two blocks. He was credited with 42 receptions, 98 percent positive. Watten was credited with 16 receptions, 100 percent positive.
U.S. middle blocker Max Holt (Cincinnati, Ohio) and his Italian league team Copra Elior Piacenza fell to BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte, 25-23, 25-23, 25-27, 25-21 on Feb. 10. Holt started the first two sets and played as a substitute in the third and fourth. He finished with three points on three kills. U.S. outside hitter Jeff Menzel (Santa Barbara, Calif.) was on the roster for Castellana Grotte but did not play.
U.S. opposite Murphy Troy (St. Louis, Mo.) and Andreoli Latina fell to CMC Ravenna, 25-22, 26-24, 23-25, 25-22 on Feb. 10. Troy started the third and fourth sets and scored seven points on six attacks and one ace. U.S. middle blocker Ryan Jay Owens (Evanston, Ill.) played as a substitute for Ravenna but did not score.
In Italy’s Serie A2 league, U.S. outside hitter Garrett Muagututia (Oceanside, Calif.) and Sieco Service Ortona fell to B-Chem Golden Plast Potenza Picena, 25-18, 25-17, 25-27, 25-21 on Feb. 10. Muagututia scored seven points on six attacks and one ace. He was credited with 42 receptions, 76 percent positive.
CEV CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
In the Champions League six-team playoff, Russia’s Zenit Kazan, which includes U.S. middle blocker David Lee (Alpine, Calif.), a 2008 and 2012 Olympian, and outside hitter Matt Anderson (West Seneca, N.Y.), a 2012 Olympian, defeated visiting Dinamo Moscow, 25-19, 25-22, 25-18 on Feb. 6. Anderson scored 11 points on six attacks (66.7 kill percent, .667 hitting efficiency) and a match-high five blocks. Lee scored eight points on seven attacks (63.6 kill percent, .636 hitting efficiency) and one block. The two teams will play again on Feb. 13 in Moscow.
U.S. setter Kevin Hansen (Newport Beach, Calif.), a 2008 Olympian, and visiting Arkas Izmir Spor lost their first match of the playoffs to Poland’s Zaksa Kedzierzyn-Kozle, 25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-9 on Feb. 5. Hansen scored three points on one kill, one block and one ace. He set the team to a 40.7 kill percent and a .254 hitting efficiency. The teams will play again on Feb. 12 in Turkey.

U.S. outside hitter Reid Priddy (Richmond, Va.), a 2004, ’08 and ’12 Olympian, and Halkbank Ankara won their first semifinal match of the CEV Cup over Ukraine’s Lokomotiv Kharkiv, 25-19, 25-21, 25-17 on Feb. 6. Priddy scored eight points on seven attacks (50.0 kill percent, .429 hitting efficiency) and one block. He was credited with 13 receptions, 85 percent positive. The teams will play again on Feb. 13 in Ukraine.
Murphy Troy and Italy’s Andreoli Latina lost their first semifinal match to Turkey’s Maliye Milli Piyango Ankara, 25-19, 25-22, 21-25, 25-18 on Feb. 6. Troy started the third and fourth sets and scored 11 points on nine attacks, one block and one ace. The teams will play again on Feb. 13 in Italy.
CEV CHALLENGE CUP
Max Holt and Copra Elior Piacenza defeated Stroitel Minsk of Belarus in the quarterfinals of the CEV Challenge Cup, 25-18, 25-22, 25-22 on Feb. 6. Holt scored seven points on five attacks (55.6 kill percent, .556 hitting efficiency) and two blocks. The teams will play again on Feb. 13 in Italy.
