COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec. 3, 2013) – U.S. men’s and women’s beach volleyball teams took silver medals on Sunday at the season-ending NORCECA Circuit event in Trinidad & Tobago.

USA Volleyball won an extra $5,000 for finishing the NORCECA Circuit season with the most points on the women’s side. On the men’s side, the U.S. finished third.
The U.S. team of Lane Carico (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Heather Hughes (Fallbrook, Calif.) won the silver medal in the women’s bracket in Trinidad & Tobago. It was the fourth straight medal for the team and the second straight silver.
In the men’s bracket, Avery Drost (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Will Montgomery (Santa Barbara, Calif.) took the silver.
Carico and Hughes won their semifinal match over Canada’s Heather Bansley and Caleigh Whitaker, 21-17, 21-13. They fell in the final to Canada’s Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas, 22-20, 21-25. The second U.S. women’s team competing in Trinidad & Tobago, Sarah Day (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Kaitlin Nielsen (Santa Rosa, Calif.), finished sixth.
Carico and Hughes have won a total of two silver medals and two gold this season on the NORCECA Circuit. Carico also won a gold medal with a different partner, Sarah Hughes.
Drost and Montgomery beat Canada’s Chaim Schalk and Benjamin Saxton in the semifinals, 21-19, 16-21, 15-6. In the final, the U.S. team fell to Canada’s Christian Redmann and Maverick Hatch, 21-16, 21-16.
The other U.S. men’s team of Theo Brunner (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Nick Lucena (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) placed fifth.
