COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (August 8, 2013) – Setter James Shaw has been added to the 12-player roster of the U.S. Men’s Junior National Team (MJNT) that will compete at the FIVB Men’s U21 World Championship in Ankara and Izmir, Turkey from Aug. 22-Sept. 1.

Shaw (Woodside, Calif.) replaces Micah Christenson (Honolulu, Hawaii), who is training with the U.S. Men’s National Team at the American Sports Centers in Anaheim, Calif.

“We’re looking forward to having James’ leadership and international experience on the team,” Men’s Junior National Team Head Coach Pete Hanson said. “He’s a talented athlete and brings a lot to the table.”

Shaw played opposite on the 2012 Men’s Junior National Team that won the NORCECA Championship in Colorado Springs, Colo. to qualify for the 2013 FIVB World Championship. He was originally named an alternate to the 2013 MJNT.

In 2011, Shaw was selected to the U.S. Boys’ Youth National Team that won the bronze medal at the U19 Pan American Cup and placed 11th at the FIVB U19 World Championship.

A setter on the men’s indoor volleyball team at Stanford University, Shaw saw action in 98 sets in his freshman season in 2013. He led the team with 1,027 assists and added 160 digs, 65 kills and 49 blocks. His play earned him 2013 All-MPSF Freshman Team honors as well as an All-MPSF Honorable Mention.

The MJNT travels to Colorado Springs to train at the Olympic Training Center from Aug. 11-16 before heading to Turkey for the FIVB Men’s U21 World Championship.
