Junior Beach Tour Concludes With Championships
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 31, 2013) – Champions were crowned in 11 divisions at the 2013 USA Volleyball Junior Beach Tour on July 27-28 at Bradford Beach in Milwaukee, Wis.
A record 260 teams competed in the event, including 31 boys’ teams, 150 girls’ teams in the Open Division and 87 girls’ teams in the Patriot Division. The Open Division consists of teams that qualified in events on the 2013 USAV Junior Beach tour, while the Patriot Division is open to any junior beach volleyball team.
The Junior Beach Tour stopped in 18 USAV regions and 17 states, and was open to athletes age 10-18.
In the boys’ under-12 division, the team of Kellen Moody-Gonzalez and Gaelen Conklin earned the top spot, while Kolton Janz and Adam Lopata took silver.
Nine teams competed in the boys’ 14U division, in which Tristan Vassberg and Richard Tierney III earned first place in the gold division. Conor Lilly and Conor Ward netted silver and tied for bronze were the duos of Luke Borowski/Aaron Plaisted and Zachary Schumacher/Blake Hassler.
Of the 12 teams competing in the boys’ 16U division, Adam Dake and Stefan Mickol won gold in the gold division. Blake Janz and Joe Dittman took silver, and Josh Russell and Jake Russell as well as Austin Cox and Alex Shebesta earned bronze.
The boys’ 18U division featured nine teams and saw Alec Podrasky and Nolan Rueter take the top spot in the gold division. Earning silver was the duo of Teddy Hesterman and Nathan Vander Meer, and Carlos Jimenez/Rhenan Bolivar as well as Levi Algozino/Jared Bernard took bronze.
Thirty-five teams competed in the girls’ 12U Open Division, in which Sedona Giambalvo and Sarah Sheffield won first place in the gold division. Harper Hallgren and Kendall Gilpin followed with a silver place finish, and Madeline Speicher and Savannah Funk as well as Stephanie Young and Brodie Woodall earned bronze.
The girls’ 12U Patriot Division featured 12 teams. Ashley Guenveur and Kaylee Kuecker grabbed first place in the gold division, while Madison Baxter and Kaylee Donner took second. Tied for third were the teams of Sierra Lee and Cenie Frieson as well as Lauren Decker and Kelly Kern.
Forty-four teams took to the sand in the girls’ 14U Open Division, with Rylie Vaughn and Mariah Whalen finishing first in the gold division. Shaylee Befus and Raychel Reed won second, and Jaiden Chase/Taylor Kuper and Tayah Mahi/Abbey Weideman tied for third.
The competition in the girls’ 14U Patriot Division was comprised of 26 teams. Cheyenne Wright and Miranda Greathouse took first in the gold division, while Eden Dolezal and Natalie Perrault earned second. Rounding out the podium were the duos of Jordyn Barrette and Maddie Buratti as well as Sinead Prentiss and Angela Lewand, taking third.
The biggest division at the 2013 Junior Beach Tour Championships, the girls’ 16U Open Division featured 48 teams. Jamie Stivers and Madison Ligon earned the top spot in the gold division, while Ashlan Cunningham and Tyler Lucas finished second. The teams of Francesca Goncalves/Alexa Bass and Payton Chang/Nicole Lyons tied for third place.
Thirty-eight teams competed in the girls’ U16 Patriot Division, in which Sarah Dodd and Quinn Spieker took home a first place finish in the gold division. Abby King and Brooke Gyori finished second, and Raven Hood and Karley Buford tied for third place with Toni Leitshuh and Riley Sawin.
The girls’ 18U Open Division featured 28 teams and saw Jessica Johnson and Molly Turner take the top spot in the gold division. Courtney Miller and Elyse Berlin nabbed second place, while Alexa Richardson and Honor Baker as well as Alana Hughes and Holly Milam tied for third place.
Rounding out the tournament, the girls’ 18U Patriot Division was comprised of 10 teams. Madison Kielty and Aleka Bassett won first place in the gold division, while Sydney Nelson and Alyssa Deem took second and Tara Heald/Graesyn Pawlak and Emma Herms/Brooke Gilbertson earned third.
