COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 23, 2013) – The AVCA has announced the college teams and pairs that will compete at the AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championships on May 3-5 in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Gulf Coast Region of USA Volleyball is one of the hosts of the event, which will include several athletes who are already involved in USA Volleyball’s Beach High Performance Program.
Pepperdine University, Long Beach State University, University of Southern California, University of North Florida, Florida State University and the University of Louisiana-Monroe are the schools that have been selected to compete in the team championship.
The 16-team pairs field includes the top duos from the schools in the team competition as well as 10 doubles teams from schools not in the team competition. Pairs were selected from Georgia State University, University of California/Los Angeles, Florida International University, the University of Alabama/Birmingham, the University of the Pacific, Jacksonville University, Loyola Marymount University and Saint Mary's College of California. All participants in the championships were selected based on results from the collegiate sand volleyball season that began in March.
CBS Sports Network will televise portions of the competition in three hour-long specials beginning on Tuesday, May 21 (7 p.m., ET).
"Combine world-class beaches with a hard-working and dedicated community and you have a formula for success," said Philip Bryant, Commissioner of the Gulf Coast Region. "A year ago we set as our goal to win this event going forward and now we are determined to make the championships a bigger and better event every year!"

FIVB EVENTS UPDATE
Preliminary placements have been posted for the Shanghai Grand Slam, the first FIVB beach volleyball grand slam event of 2013, which will take place April 30-May 5 in China.
In the men’s bracket, the U.S. beach volleyball team of Phil Dalhausser (Ormond Beach, Fla.) and Sean Rosenthal (Redondo Beach, Calif.) are ranked No. 2 in the main draw. Matt Fuerbringer (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Nick Lucena (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) are third and Jake Gibb (Bountiful, Utah) and Casey Patterson (Van Nuys, Calif.) are ranked ninth.
Todd Rogers (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Ryan Doherty (Toms River, N.J.) are ranked 19th in the qualification bracket.
In the women’s bracket, Jennifer Kessy (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and April Ross (Costa Mesa, Calif.) are placed sixth in the main draw along while Lauren Fendrick (Carlsbad, Ind.) and Nicole Branagh (Orinda, Calif.) are ranked seventh.
Jennifer Fopma (Bellflower, Calif.) and Brooke Sweat (Fort Myers, Fla.) are second in the qualification bracket while Emily Day (Torrance, Calif.) and Brittany Hochevar (Fowler, Colo.) are ninth.
These placements are preliminary and will most likely change once the official seeding takes place at the tournament.
PORTUGAL TO HOST U19 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
The FIVB has announced that Porto, Portugal will host the 12th edition of the FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championships from July 11 to 14.
Porto replaces Larnaka, Cyprus who withdrew following the financial problems in the country.
Porto joins a list of experienced host cities for the FIVB Beach Volleyball Age Group World Championships this year with Umag, Croatia staging the 13th edition of the FIVB Beach Volleyball U21 World Championships on June 20-23 and Myslowice, Poland welcoming the inaugural edition of the FIVB Beach Volleyball U23 World Championships on June 6-9.
Each event will consist of a main draw of 32 teams (eight pools of four teams with the top two teams advancing to the single elimination final phase), comprising six teams per gender per FIVB Confederation (with a maximum of one team per gender per country) and two teams per gender for the host country.
