COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 28, 2012) – U.S. beach volleyball teams swept the gold medals and secured one silver on Sunday at the NORCECA Beach Circuit event in Gros Islet, St. Lucia.

On the men’s side, the USA 1 team of Jon Mesko (Traverse City, Mich.) and Will Montgomery (Santa Barbara, Calif.) defeated compatriots Jeff Carlson (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Tony Ciarelli (Huntington Beach, Calif.) of USA2 in the gold medal match, 21-13, 24-22.

For the women, the U.S. beach volleyball team of Traci Weamer (Upland, Calif.) and Kathryn (Babcock) Piening (Kalamazoo, Mich.) won the gold medal match over Costa Rica’s Ingrid Morales and Natalia Alfaro, 17-21, 22-20, 15-12. The first set was the first set loss of the tournament for Weamer and Piening, who advanced to the final with a 21-15, 21-12 victory over Canada’s Kristina Vlcek and Victoria Cowley in the semifinals.

In the men’s bracket, Mesko and Montgomery did not drop a set in the tournament. The U.S. pair reached the final by defeating Trinidad & Tobago’s Fabien Whitfield and Daniels Williams in one semifinal, 21-12, 25-23.
