COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 27, 2012) – Three U.S. beach volleyball teams will compete in Sunday’s semifinals of the NORCECA Beach Circuit event in Gros Islet, Saint Lucia.

A total of 18 different countries are being represented in the ninth stage of the 2012 tour. Both men and women are playing in double-elimination brackets. All three U.S. teams competing have gone undefeated to reach the semifinals.

On the men’s side, the USA 1 team of Jon Mesko (Traverse City, Mich.) and Will Montgomery (Santa Barbara, Calif.) will play Trinidad & Tobago’s Fabien Whitfield and Daniels Williams in one semifinal Sunday while the USA2 team of Jeff Carlson (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Tony Ciarelli (Huntington Beach, Calif.) will face St. Lucia’s Julian Biscette and Joseph Clercent in the other.

The winners will play for the gold medal in Sunday’s final.

The U.S. women’s team of Tracy Weamer (Upland, Calif.) and Kathryn (Babcock) Piening (Kalamazoo, Mich.) will play Canada’s Kristina Vlcek and Victoria Cowley in Sunday’s women’s semifinal. The winner will play the victor of the second semifinal between Costa Rica’s Ingrid Morales and Natalia Alfaro and Trinidad & Tobago’s Nancy Joseph and Pauline Woodroffe for the gold medal.

Weamer and Piening won their second-round match on Saturday over Antigua’s Tessa Payne and Rosemary Joseph Simon, 21-9, 21-12 in 20 minutes. In the third round, they beat Deborah Constanzo and Karla Montilla of Dominican Republic, 21-11, 21-18 in 39 minutes.
