U.S. Beach Teams Undefeated in St. Lucia

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 26, 2012) – Three U.S. beach volleyball teams all went undefeated on Friday, the first day of the NORCECA Beach Circuit event in Gros Islet, St. Lucia.
A total of 18 different countries are being represented in the ninth stage of the 2012 tour. Both men and women are playing in double-elimination brackets.
The U.S. women’s team of Tracy Weamer (Upland, Calif.) and Kathryn Piening (Kalamazoo, Mich.) won their first-round match over Eva Hodge and Rikiesha Leveret of Anguilla, 21-6, 21-6 in 40 minutes.
Weamer and Piening will play Antigua’s Tessa Payne and Rosemary Joseph Simon in Saturday’s second round.
On the men’s side, the USA 1 team of Jon Mesko (Traverse City, Mich.) and Will Montgomery (Santa Barbara, Calif.) defeated Curtis Gaskin and Hugh Sealey of Barbados on Friday, 21-13, 21-15 in 30 minutes in the first round.
Mesko and Montgomery will take on Adam Lafeuillee and Gregg Gilbert of Grenada in Saturday’s second round.
The USA2 team of Jeff Carlson (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Tony Ciarelli (Huntington Beach, Calif.) won their first-round match over Moises Reyes and Erick Garrido of Guatemala, 21-18, 21-18 in 38 minutes.
The U.S. pair will face Aruba’s Mitchel Daniel and Eargenell De Cuba on Saturday.
