COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 9, 2012) – The USA Volleyball Board of Directors convened on Oct. 8 for its first-ever board meeting at the National Governing Body’s new headquarters building located in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The Board of Directors capped off an impressive four days of activity that included an Open House and official ribbon cutting on Oct. 5 that welcomed approximately 100 volleyball leaders from across the country, United States Olympic Committee and other National Governing Body leaders, and Colorado Springs community and sports members. USA Volleyball moved into its new headquarters building in March of 2012. In addition, the USA Volleyball Regional Volleyball Assembly met Oct. 5-6 in Colorado Springs, while the USAV Audit, Finance and Budget committee and USA Volleyball Foundation Board met on Oct. 7 ahead of the Board of Directors meeting.
The USA Volleyball Board of Directors welcomed Todd Rogers (Male Beach Athlete Director), Lori Okimura (Beach At-Large Director) and Steve Bishop (Elite Beach Development Director) to their first meeting after being newly confirmed to the Board last week.
The Board, led by chairman Adam Rymer, reviewed the most recent Olympic quadrennial, looking specifically at the successes at the London Games that netted the women’s beach volleyball gold and silver medals, the silver medal in the women’s indoor volleyball and the silver medal in the women’s sitting volleyball competition. After reviewing areas of improvement, the Board discussed the goals for the next Olympic quadrennial that will end with the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympic Games.
In other business, Rymer was unanimously elected to continue as chairman of the USA Volleyball Board of Directors.
“It is a pleasure to be elected to serve USA Volleyball as Board Chair,” Rymer said. “There are a number of significant goals set before us over the next quad and I look forward to working together with USAV staff, the Board of Directors and all of the RVAs to achieve them. On behalf of the Board, we are grateful to have the ongoing service of Doug Beal and applaud the entire national organization for continued membership growth and a great success in London.”
Stew McDole, out-going treasurer for the USA Volleyball Board of Directors, was recognized during the meeting for his long-term service to USA Volleyball in major leadership roles.
Further, the board secured the continued service of Doug Beal as USA Volleyball’s chief executive officer through 2016. Beal has held the position since 2005.
“This upcoming quad is particularly exciting with many great opportunities, challenges and potential for dramatic growth across many platforms leading to a special Olympics for our sport in Rio 2016,” Beal said. “It is a special honor to continue to lead this organization with the endorsement, support and collaboration of our Board.”
