COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 18, 2012) – Three U.S. beach volleyball teams have advanced to Sunday’s semifinal matches NORCECA Beach Circuit event in Trinidad and Tobago.

On the women’s side, the U.S. team of Emily Day (Torrance, Calif.) and Summer Ross (San Diego, Calif.) will face Costa Ricans, Ingrid Morales and Natalia Alfaro in one semifinal on Sunday. In the other semifinal, the U.S. team of Tealle Hunkus (Girard, Ohio) and Traci Weamer (Upland, Calif.) will play Trinidad & Tobago’s Nancy Joseph and Ayanna Dyette.

Hunkus and Weamer are competing together for the first time, as are Joseph and Dyette.

For the men, Will Montgomery (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Tony Ciarelli (Huntington Beach, Calif.) have advance to the semifinals.

The U.S. pair defeated Costa Rica’s Rooper Espinoza and Diego Alpizar in the second round on Saturday, 21-13, 21-19, then beat their U.S. compatriots Weston Carico (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Curt Toppel (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) in the quarterfinals, 21-16, 19-21, 18-16.

Carico and Toppel, who are still alive in consolation, advanced to the quarterfinals by topping Aruba’s Mitchel Daniel and Eargenell De Cuba in the second round, 15-21, 21-18, 15-13 on Saturday.

Nicaragua’s Gerald Umana and Henry Hernandez have advanced to the other men’s semifinal.

In women’s play on Saturday, Day and Ross won Pool B with a 21-6, 21-4 victory over Grenada’s Yenelsi Rincon and Akida Peters. In the quarterfinals, the U.S. pair beat Trinidad & Tobago’s Elki Phillip and Andrea Davis, 21-9, 21-10.

Hunkus and Weamer, who won their pool on Friday, only had to play one match Saturday, defeating Trinidad & Tobago’s Shenelle Gordon and La-Teisha Joseph, 21-11, 21-11.
