COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 17, 2012) – All four U.S. beach volleyball teams competing at the NORCECA Beach Circuit event on Mission Beach in Trinidad won their first matches on Friday.

Playing in a three-team Pool A round-robin series in the 11-team tournament, the U.S. women’s team of Tealle Hunkus (Girard, Ohio) and Traci Weamer (Upland, Calif.) won their matches over Canada's Kimberly Dalcourt and Rosalie Sinanan (21-4, 21-7 in 24 minutes) and the Trinidad & Tobago B team of Andrea Davis and Elki Phillip (21-12, 21-7) to advance to Saturday’s final eight.

Weamer won the last NORCECA Circuit event in St. Lucia with partner Kathryn Piening (Kalamazoo, Mich.).

In Pool B, the U.S. women’s team of Emily Day (Torrance, Calif.) and Summer Ross (San Diego, Calif.) defeated Trinidad & Tobago’s Shenelle Gordon and La-Teisha Joseph, 21-3, 21-11 in 22 minutes. Day and Ross will play Grenada’s Yenelsi Rincon and Akida Peters in their final Pool B match on Saturday.

Day and Ross won the World University Championship in Brazil earlier this summer.

On the men’s side, the U.S. team of Will Montgomery (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Tony Ciarelli (Huntington Beach, Calif.) won their first-round match over the Trinidad & Tobago B team of Simon Blake and Colin Bernard, 17-21, 21-9, 15-12.

Montgomery won the last NORCECA Circuit event in St. Lucia with Jon Mesko (Traverse City, Mich.) while Ciarelli took the silver medal with Jeff Carlson (Newport Beach, Calif.).

The U.S. team of Weston Carico (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Curt Toppel (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) defeated Guatemala’s Julio Recinos and Luis Garcia, 21-19, 21-14.
