COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 14, 2012) – All the news about U.S. men’s volleyball players in the U.S. and around the world.

PUERTO RICO

It was the battle of U.S. opposites on Nov. 11 in the Puerto Rican league as David McKienzie (Littleton, Colo.) and Patriotas de Lares paid a visit to Evan Patak (Pleasanton, Calif.) and Plataneros de Corozal. McKienzie came out on top as Lares defeated Corozal, 25-21, 25-18, 20-25, 25-14. Patak led all scorers with 19 points on 15 kills, three blocks and one ace. McKienzie led his team with 18 points on 18 attacks.

On Nov. 8, McKienzie led all scorers with 37 points on 36 kills and one blocks as Lares beat Indios de Mayaguez, 26-24, 25-19, 21-25, 33-31. That same day, Patak led all scorers with 25 points on 22 kills, two blocks and one ace as Corozal defeated Cariduros de Fajardo, 25-23, 25-27, 25-22, 25-19. Lares (12-4) leads the league while Corozal (12-4) sits in third.

ARGENTINA

Argentina’s Serie A1 league began Nov. 8 and U.S. setter Donald Suxho (Korce, Albania), a 2004 and ’12 Olympian, and his Argentina league team Drean Bolivar are 2-0 after their first two matches.

On Nov. 8, Bolivar defeated Boca Rio Uruguay Seguros, 20-25, 27-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-13. Suxho started all five sets and scored four points on one kill and three blocks. He also set Bolivar to a 52.0 kill percent and a .425 hitting efficiency.

On Nov. 10, Bolivar followed that up with a 25-16, 25-20, 28-26 win over UNTREF Voley. Suxho started all three sets and scored five points on four attacks and one block. He also set the team to a 47.7 kill percent and a .443 hitting efficiency. 

FRANCE

U.S. middle blocker David Smith (Saugus, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and his French league team Tours, are now 6-0 after defeating U.S. opposite Carson Clark (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Montpellier (2-4), 25-22, 26-24, 25-15 on Nov. 10. Smith started all three sets and scored five points on three kills and two blocks.  Clark started all three sets and scored 10 points on nine attacks and one ace. U.S. outside hitter Robert Tarr (Cape Canaveral, Fla.) scored 16 points and middle blocker Matt Rawson (Los Angeles) added three as AS Cannes defeated Paris Volley, 21-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-14 on Nov. 11.
Tarr started all four sets and scored on 15 kills (60.0 kill percent, .520 hitting efficiency) and one block. He was also credited with 21 receptions, 85 percent positive. Rawson played as a substitute and started the fourth set, scoring on two attacks and one block.

Middle blocker Andy Hein (Carol Stream, Ill.) is playing for Toulouse, which is 2-4 in the league after falling to Chaumont, 25-19, 26-24, 25-19 on Nov. 9. Hein started all three sets and scored four points on two kills and two blocks.

In France’s B league, AS Orange Nassau, including U.S. libero Dustin Watten (Long Beach, Calif.) and outside hitters Damien Scott (Santa Ana, Calif.) and Eric Vance (Camarillo, Calif.) fell to Asnières, 12-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 15-11 on Nov. 10. Vance led his team with 22 points on 21 kills (60.0 kill percent, .514 hitting efficiency) and one block. Scott added 11 points on eight attacks and three blocks. He was also credited with 36 receptions, 75 percent positive. Watten was credited with 28 receptions, 93 percent positive.

GERMANY

U.S. setter Kawika Shoji (Honolulu, Hawaii) helped the Berlin Recycling Volleys to a 25-20, 21-25, 28-30, 25-20, 15-9 victory over evivo Duren on Nov. 10.  Shoji started the first three sets and scored three points on one kill and two aces. He also helped set the team to a 45.4 kill percent and a .380 hitting efficiency. U.S. outside hitter Scott Touzinsky (St. Louis, Mo.), a 2008 Olympian, is the team captain but did not play in the match. Berlin Recycling leads the league with a 10-0 record.

ITALY

In Italy’s Serie A league, U.S. middle blocker Max Holt (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Copra Elior Piacenza fell to Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo on Nov. 11, 28-26, 25-20, 25-20. Holt started all three sets and scored two points on a kill and an ace. To view a photo gallery, click here.

Andreoli Latina, which includes U.S. opposite Murphy Troy (St. Louis, Mo.), fell to Itas Diatec Trentino, 25-14, 25-22, 25-22 on Nov. 10. Troy played as a substitute and did not score

In Italy’s Serie B league, U.S. outside hitter Garrett Muagututia (Oceanside, Calif.) and Sieco Service Ortona improved to 6-1 as they defeated B-Chem Golden Plast Potenza Picena, 25-22, 20-25, 25-16, 25-19 on Nov. 11. Muagututia started all four sets and scored 17 points on 16 attacks and one ace. He was also credited with 24 receptions, 67 percent positive. To view a photo gallery, click here.

POLAND

U.S. middle blocker Russell Holmes (Fountain Valley, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and his Polish Plus Liga Jastrzębski Węgiel fell to ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle, 25-19, 25-18, 25-15 on Nov. 9. Holmes started all three sets and scored six points on three kills and three blocks.  To view a photo gallery, click here.

U.S. outside hitter Paul Lotman (Lakewood, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and Asseco Resovia Rzeszów fell to Wkręt-met AZS Częstochowa, 14-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-19, 15-13 on Nov. 10. Lotman played as a substitute and started the fourth set. He scored two points on one kill and one ace. To view a photo gallery, click here.

RUSSIA

In the Cup of Russia tournament, U.S. outside hitter Matt Anderson (West Seneca, N.Y.), a 2012 Olympian, and his Russian Super League team Zenit Kazan won their first match over Orenburg, 25-15, 28-26, 25-21 on Nov. 9. Anderson scored 11 points in the match. To view photos, click here. In the second semifinal match, Kazan fell to Fakel Novy Urengoi, 27-25, 25-19, 26-24 on Nov. 10. Anderson scored five points in the match. To view photos, click here. In the final semifinal match, Kazan defeated Guberniya Nizniy Novgorod, 27-29, 25-15, 25-23, 25-21. Anderson scored 14 points in the match. To view photos, click here. The team is waiting to find out if it will get a wild card into the final six.

SLOVENIA

U.S. outside hitter Jayson Jablonsky is playing for ACH Volley Ljubljana, which is leading the Middle European Volleyball Zonal Association with a 6-0 record. On Nov. 10, Ljubljana defeated Slovenia’s Calcit Kamnik, 20-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-22. Jablonsky started the second, third and fourth sets and scored 16 points on 11 kills, three blocks and two aces. To view photos, click here. On Nov. 13, Ljubljana beat Austria’s Posojilnica AICH/DOB, 23-25, 25-21, 29-27, 25-22. Jablonsky again started the final three sets and scored 13 points nine attacks and four blocks.

FINLAND

The Finnish team Raision Loimu, which includes three U.S. players, defeated Muuramen Lentopallo, 25-23, 25-21, 25-20 on Nov. 11. U.S. opposite Dean Bittner (Lakewood, Calif.) led the team with 14 points on 12 attacks and two blocks. U.S. middle blocker Dan McDonnell (Glendale, Ariz.) started all four sets and scored seven points on five attacks and two blocks. U.S. outside hitter Jordan Dufault (Lakewood, Calif.) played as a substitute and did not score.

TURKEY

In the Turkish league, U.S. outside hitter Reid Priddy (Richmond, Va.), a 2004, ’08 and ’12 Olympian, and Halkbank Ankara defeated Gumushane Torul Genclik, 25-22, 25-19, 25-20 on Nov. 10. Priddy started all three sets and scored 10 points on eight kills and two blocks. He was also credited with 21 receptions, 62 percent positive.

U.S. opposite Brook Billings (Santa Barbara, Calif.), a 2004 Olympian, and Istanbul BBSK defeated Galatasaray, 24-26, 25-14, 17-25, 25-16, 15-7 on Nov. 11. Billings started all five sets and led all scorers with 24 points on 21 kills, two blocks and one ace.

CEV CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

In Pool A, Matt Anderson and Zenit Kazan defeated Austria’s Hypo Tirol Innsbruck, 25-10, 25-16, 34-32 on Nov. 13 in Russia. Anderson did not play in the match. Kazan is 3-0 in the pool.

In Pool B, the Berlin Recycling Volleys, including Scott Touzinsky and Kawika Shoji, defeated visiting Montenegro’s Budvanska Rivijera Budva, 25-16, 20-25, 25-19, 25-13). Touzinsky started all four sets and scored six points on five kills and one block. He was also credited with 17 receptions, 82 percent positive. Shoji started all four sets and added four points on one attack, one block and two aces. He set the team to a 50.5 kill percent and a .459 hitting efficiency. Berlin is 2-1 in the pool. In Pool C, David Smith and Tours beat host Crvena Zvezda Beograd of Serbia, 25-21, 25-13, 25-18 on Nov. 13. Smith started the first two sets and scored 12 points on four attacks, a match-high six blocks and two aces. Tours is 1-2 in the pool. To view a photo gallery, click here.

In Pool D, Jayson Jablonsky and ACH Volley Ljubljana defeated Belgium’s Euphony Asse-Lennik, 25-19, 25-15, 25-15 on Nov. 14. Jablonsky did not play in the match. Ljubljana is 1-2 in the pool.

In Pool F, U.S. setter Kevin Hansen (Newport Beach, Calif.) and host Arkas Izmir Spor fell to Belgium’s Noliko Maaseik, 22-25, 25-16, 27-25, 25-17 on Nov. 13. Hansen finished with six points on five kills and one ace. To view a photo gallery, click here.

In Pool G, Paul Lotman and Asseco Resovia Rzeszow fell to visiting Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo of Italy, 25-18, 25-23, 25-20 on Nov. 14. Lotman started the first two sets and scored two points on two kills. To view a photo gallery, click here.

CEV CUP

In the round of 16, visting Andreoli Latina and Murphy Troy fell to Finland’s VaLePa Sastamala, 26-24, 25-19, 23-25, 25-20 on Nov. 14. Troy finished with 13 points. They will play again on Nov. 21 in Italy.

Russell Holmes and visiting Jastrzebski Wegiel defeated Turkey’s Maliye Milli Piyango Ankara, 25-15, 25-14, 24-26, 25-17. They will play again on Nov. 21 in Poland. To view a photo gallery, click here.

Reid Priddy and host Halkbank Ankara defeated Netherlands’ Landstede Zwolle, 25-18, 25-23, 25-20 on Nov. 13. They will play again on Nov. 20 in Netherlands. To view a photo gallery, click here.

Robert Tarr, Matt Rawson and host AS Cannes fell to Russia’s Lokomotiv Kharkiv, 25-22, 18-25, 25-27, 26-24, 15-9 on Nov. 13. They will play again on Nov. 21 in Russia.
