COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 25, 2012) – The U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team, ranked No. 1 in the world by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), will hold its second intrasquad Red-Blue scrimmage in as many weekends on May 26 at 5 p.m. Pacific Time on the campus of UC Irvine.

The match, which will be free to the public, will be played at Crawford Hall on the UC Irvine campus. The scrimmage, which will have 23 athletes suiting up, will allow the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team coaching staff to make final preparations for the busy summer that includes the FIVB World Grand Prix, the Pan American Cup, international exhibition matches against Bulgaria and the Olympic Games.

The U.S. Women, who train at the American Sports Centers in Anaheim, Calif., will seek to win their third consecutive FIVB World Grand Prix title this summer. Team USA travels to Dominican Republic to play Germany (June 8), Chinese Taipei (June 9) and Dominican Republic (June 10) in the first preliminary weekend. The U.S. travels south to Sao Paulo Brazil for the second weekend of matches against Italy (June 15), Germany (June 16) and Brazil (June 17). The Americans close the preliminary round in Thailand against Serbia (June 22), Argentina (June 23) and Thailand (June 24).

The top five teams in the 16-team preliminary round plus China advance to the FIVB World Grand Prix Final Round set June 27 to July 1 at Ningbo, China.

The U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team will host Bulgaria in a three-match pre-Olympic Games exhibition series. The City of Anaheim, the official host city for both the U.S. Women’s and Men’s National Volleyball Teams, will serve as host for the first of three exhibition matches with Bulgaria. The initial match will be held on July 14 at 7 p.m. Pacific Time inside the American Sports Centers, the team’s training headquarters located in Anaheim.

The University of Southern California will host USA-Bulgaria matches on July 16 and July 18 at Galen Center. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. Pacific Time. Admission for the two matches played at USC is $10 for adults per match, while tickets for children 12-and-under and groups of 10 or more are $5 per match. Tickets can be purchased by visiting usctrojans.com/usa.

The Olympic Games begin on July 28 for the women’s volleyball competition with alternating days of competition with the men’s volleyball competition.
