Galveston Hosts Beach Junior Tour Event

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 21, 2012) – The USA Beach Junior Tour traveled to Galveston, Texas, on May 19 for the Texas Open. More than 100 teams came from across the state to compete in the one-day event that included divisions for both male and female athletes.

The girls’ side of the tournament boasted a great turnout. Two-hundred girls competed in four age divisions.

The 12-and-under (12U) age division hosted 15 teams. Third place was shared between the team of Isabel Gonzalez (Aledo) and Miles Baker (Denton) and Alina Lam (Allen) and Angelee Ng (The Colony).

In the championship match, Ashlyn Pope (Frisco) and Ginger Stephenson (Rowlett) defeated Harper Hallgrem (Westlake) and Sarah Scheffield (Plano).

The 14U age division had representation from 41 teams. In this highly competitive division, teams from Dallas were strongly represented. Francesca Goncalves and Alexa Bass share third-place accolades with Samantha Fawcett and Jillian Via. These four girls all hail from Dallas. In the championship match, Haley Hallgren (Westlake) and Ashley Robert (McKinney) defeated the Dallas team of Victoria Durney and Amy Lenards to win the age division and claim first place.

The 16U age division hosted 32 teams. Aeriel Horton (Waxahachie) and Hannah Hestor (Midlothian) finished third. They share third-place bragging rights with the team of Kelsey Ediger and Gabbi Moreno, both of Pearland. Second place went to another team of Dallas girls, Jamie Stivers and Ashlan Cunningham. Molly Jeffcoat (Waxahachie) and Elyse Berlin (McKinney) defeated Stivers and Cunningham in the finals to earn first-place accolades.

The 18U age division hosted 12 teams. Third place was shared between the Austin team of Megan Schallenberg and Mahie Snyder and the Canyon Lake team of Amber Ramsey and Marisa Ellis. Second place went to Annie Mitchem and Jullian Bergeson, both of Friendswood. They were defeated by Sarah Agnew (Copell) and Kylie Goble (Ft. Worth), who took the gold.

The boys division hosted seven teams. In the 12U division, Jacob Mayerson (Seabrook) and Gabriel Roden (Pearland) took first place.

The boys’ 16U division was won by Samuel Deleon and Paul Fonseca, both from Houston.

In the 18U division, the team of Brent Bautista (League City) and Ross Nelms (Santa Fe) took third place. In the gold-medal match, Austin Hartline (Carrollton) and Dayton Arellano (Plano) defeated Cade Leavitt and Colin Etherington, both from Austin.
