COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 27, 2012) – USA Volleyball will sanction the 2012 events of the National Volleyball League (NVL).
The NVL was founded in late 2010 by pro beach volleyball player Albert Hannemann and played its first full pro season in 2011. Its tournaments are often produced in conjunction with large-scale lifestyle events such as The Preakness Stakes, the Triple Crown horse race held in May in Baltimore.
In 2012, the NVL is scheduled to host six professional events. It will also host 25 collegiate events in partnership with Sinjin Smith and his National Collegiate Sand Volleyball Association.
“The NVL is excited about working with our national governing body and how they are supporting our efforts,” Hannemann said. “We have worked very hard with the players to establish a tour that they can play on for many years to come. It is crucial that we all work together for the betterment of the sport. Our tour offers the players a place to showcase their talents and compete at the highest level so we can continue to dominate the world of beach volleyball.”
Competing in NVL events will be one way that players can accrue points in the USA Volleyball Beach National Rankings.
“The National Volleyball League provides an important domestic platform for our experienced professional stars, and our elite development beach volleyball athletes,” said Dave Williams, USAV managing director for beach volleyball. “We are excited to see world-class athletes and compelling lifestyle events showcasing our sport.”
