COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 24, 2012) – After a day of play, quarterfinal pairings have been determined for the women and semifinals for the men at the USA Volleyball Beach International Development Qualifier (IDQ) being played Saturday and Sunday at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.

Teams that finish IDQ events in first or second place have the opportunity to represent the United States in specific NORCECA (North and Central American and Caribbean) Beach Volleyball Tour international events.

Thirteen women’s teams began play on Saturday and completed pool play and the first round.

In Sunday’s quarterfinals, the top-seeded team of Brooke Sweat (Fort Myers, Fla.) and Jen Fopma (Bellflower, Calif.) will face seventh-seeded Laryssa Mereszczak (Grangeville, Idaho) and Andrea Peterson (Los Angeles, Calif.). The second-seeded team of Tealle Hunkus (Girard, Ohio) and Kristen Batt (Venice, Fla.) will take on ninth-seeded Chelsea Hayes (Atascadero, Calif.) and Mariko Coverdale (Marysville, Wash.).

Third-seeded Emily Day (Torrance, Calif.) and Christal Engle (Puyallup, Wash.) will play fourth-seeded Kelly Schumacher (Miami Beach, Fla.) and Erin Gray (Orland Park, Ill.). Fifth-seeded Sheila Shaw (Muskego, Wis.) and Kathryn Babcock (Kalamazoo, Mich.) will compete against eighth-seeded Sarah Day (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Kim Dicello (San Diego, Calif.).

Seven teams competed in the men’s bracket on Saturday. In Sunday’s semifinals, top-seeded Evan Engle (Cedarville, Mich.) and Stafford Slick (Andover, Minn.) will play second-seeded Nils Nielson (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) and Adam Cabbage (Rio Rancho, N.M.). Third-seeded David Smith (Denver, Colo.) and Skylar Delsol (Denver, Colo.) will take on fourth-seeded Billy Kolinske (Big Bend, Wis.) and Raffe Paulis (Skokie, Ill.).

Play will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
