COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 16, 2012) – USA Volleyball will sanction the 2012 events of the National Collegiate Sand Volleyball Association (NCSVA).

The NCSVA, founded by beach volleyball World Champion and Olympian Sinjin Smith, is the only annual national collegiate sand volleyball championship to bring together the best men’s and women’s players from local and regional tournaments to compete for the title of National Collegiate Open Beach Volleyball Champions.

“This is a great opportunity for any male or female college sand volleyball players from any college around the country to compete against their peers,” Smith said.

“This is the sixth year of the Championships and we expect students from more than 200 colleges to take part in all the events. There is no question that our next superstars in beach volleyball will come from these events and they will ultimately represent the United States in the future Olympic Games.”

Players who compete in NCSVA events will receive a USA Volleyball national ranking.

“NCSVA is a significant initiative and critical to our beach athlete development pipeline,” said Dave Williams, managing director for USA Beach Volleyball. “For collegiate beach volleyball athletes who aspire to play professionally or internationally, this is an excellent place to start.

The NCSVA is scheduled to have 25 regional events, including eight regional championships, in 2012. The winners of the regional championships will be flown to the national championship in July in Long Beach, Calif.

The NCSVA web site is NCSVA.com.
