Mesko, Montgomery Win Men's Beach IDQ Title

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 17, 2012) – The men’s beach volleyball team of Jon Mesko and Will Montgomery won the USA Volleyball International Development Qualifier (IDQ) played Saturday at Dockweiler Beach in Playa del Rey, Calif.

Mesko and Montgomery went undefeated in pool play and advanced to the semifinals, where they defeated Landen Tusieseia and Luke Myers, 21-17, 19-21, 15-8.

In the final Mesko and Montgomery topped Derek Olsen and Matt Motter, 17-21, 21-18, 15-12.

With the victory, Mesko and Montgomery have qualified to compete at the NORECA beach volleyball events in Trinidad & Tobago (Oct. 12-14) and Antigua (Oct. 19-21).

By finishing second, Olsen and Motter qualified to compete at the NORCECA Beach Tour event in Puerto Rico (Nov. 9-11).

The USA Volleyball women’s beach IDQ started Saturday and will continue on Sunday.

In Sunday’s quarterfinals, Emily Day and Tealle Hunkus will play Jess Gysin and Diane Coppenhagen. Sarah Day and Morgan Beck will go up against Geena Urango and Caitlin Ledoux. Lynne Galli and Kim DiCello will face Dana Rothman and Mackenzie Brook. And Emily Stockman and Leah Hinkey will go up against Summer Ross and Lane Carico.

The first- and second-place women’s teams will also qualify for NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour events.
