HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. (July 22, 2012) – The third-annual USA Volleyball Beach High Performance Championships concluded on Sunday in Hermosa Beach with finals in the under-19 and under-26 age divisions.

In the women’s U26 final, Caitlin Ledoux (Phelan, Calif.) and Geena Urango (Los Alamitos, Calif.) defeated Betsi Metter (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Heather Dunn (Escondido, Calif.), 21-16, 21-18.

Courtney Trevino (Austin, Texas) and Megan Thornberry (St. Louis, Mo.) took bronze, beating Katie Lindstrom (Daytona Beach, Fla.) and Alex Stonish (Stony Brook, N.Y.) in the bronze medal match, 21-19, 15-21, 15-8.

The men’s U26 final saw Kyle Stevenson (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) and Alex Jones (Sunnyvale, Calif.), who also won the men’s U-21 title on Thursday, defeat Chris Austin (Santa Ana, Calif.) and Kris Johnson (Long Beach, Calif.), 21-19, 15-21, 15-6.

Kevin Lorenz (Chicago, Ill.) and Harrison Carroll (Huntington Beach, Calif.) placed third defeating Robart Page and Chris Long in the bronze medal match, 12-21, 21-15, 15-11.

Sara Hughes (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Justine Wong-Orantes (Cypress, Calif.) took the girls’ U19 title, defeating Jo Kremer and Vanessa Friere in the final, 21-7, 21-11.

Marina Boulanger (Goleta, Calif.) and Delaney Knudsen (Valencia, Calif.) placed third with a 21-18, 21-11 victory over Sophie Asprey (Southlake, Texas) and Mackenzie Moore (Arlington, Texas).

In the boys’ U19 division, Andrew Sato (Calabasas, Calif.) and Bennett Bird (San Diego, Calif.) defeated the sibling team of Matt Yoshimoto (Camarillo, Calif.) and Owen Yoshimoto (Camarillo, Calif.) for the title, 21-14, 18-21, 18-16.

In the bronze medal match, Drew VanZwieten (Pompano, Fla.) and Jonathan Souza (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) beat Matt Butler (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Eric Ensing (Valencia, Calif.), 21-14, 12-21, 19-17.

The third annual USAV Beach High Performance Championships (Beach HPC) is being held in Hermosa Beach, Calif., and features the best young beach volleyball athletes in the country in an elite competition. The Beach HPC gives participants exposure to international style competition within five separate age divisions. The USAV Beach HP Championships is the marquee event for USA Beach Programs.
