COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 12, 2012) – The best young beach volleyball athletes in the country will compete in Hermosa Beach, Calif., on July 18-22 at the third-annual USA Volleyball Beach High Performance Championships (Beach HPC).
The Beach HPC will give participants exposure to international style competition within five separate age divisions. The USAV Beach HP Championships is the marquee event for USA Beach Programs.
Teams competing in the Beach HPC will be representing USA Beach National Teams, USA Beach High Performance Teams, or affiliated USAV Regions. Region High Performance teams scheduled to participate are: Florida, Aloha, Intermountain, Chesapeake, Arizona, Lakeshore, Iowa, and Southern California.
Each region of USAV has been invited to enter one team per age group/per gender. Regions that hosted a USAV Beach HP event or are running their own regional Beach HP program may request additional bids. Matches will begin at 9 a.m. daily and continue to about 6 p.m. Finals for each age division are tentatively scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Match schedule and results will be available on AES (advancedeventsystems.com) starting July 17. Admission for spectators is free.
The USAV Beach HPC will take place on the south side of the Hermosa Beach Pier, adjacent to the Jose Cuervo Hermosa Beach Open, which will be on the north side.
Daily Event Schedule:
- Wednesday, July 18: Under-21 Pool Play
- Thursday, July 19: U21 Playoffs and Finals, U15 and U17 Pool Play Round 1
- Friday, July 20: U15 and U17 Pool Play Round 2, U19 Pool Play Round, Jose Cuervo Qualifier
- Saturday, July 21: U15 and U17 Playoffs and Finals, U19 Pool Play Round 2, U26 Pool Play, Jose Cuervo Main Draw
- Sunday, July 22: U19 and U26 Playoffs and Finals, Jose Cuervo Main Draw and Finals
USAV Beach HPC and other programs consist of five age classifications by birth year consistent with those established by the FIVB. These age-group classifications govern international competition and all levels of Beach High Performance programs. Please note that these age-group classifications differ from USA Volleyball Junior club and Junior Beach Tour age definitions and also from grade classifications of U.S. school systems.
- University-U26: Born in 1987 through 1991
- Junior-U21: Born in 1992 or 1993
- Youth-U19: Born in 1994 or 1995
- Select-U17: Born in 1996 or 1997
- Future Select-U15: Born in 1998 through 2000
The following events will run concurrently with the USAV HPC:
USAV Beach Official’s Training Camp July 18-21. This two-day camp will begin with an evening clinic on Wednesday, July 18 and will include valuable on-court training, experience and feedback over two camp days. Certification for both local and zonal candidates is available throughout the event. If you’re interested in becoming a beach official, come join this inaugural Camp. Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Series, Hermosa Open July 20-22. Come watch top pros vie for the prestigious Hermosa Beach Open title. Pro matches will be held on the north side of Hermosa Beach Pier. Admission is free. For more information go to: josecuervoprobeachvolleyballseries.com
