COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec. 20, 2012) – Thirty-four elite female beach volleyball players in the under-21 and under-26 age groups are at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., this week for the USA Volleyball Beach Women's Holiday High Performance Camp.

Those attending the camp on Dec. 20-23 are training to make teams that will travel to the 2013 FIVB Junior (U21) World Championships in Umag, Croatia, the 2013 World University Games in Kazan, Russia, and the new FIVB U23 World Championships (date and location to be announced).

“This is a really strong group of athletes, some who are pure beach and some who are totally new to the beach but have strong indoor resumes,” said Ali Wood Lamberson, USAV director of beach programs. “USAV is committed to creating training and competitive opportunities for a broader range of athletes in order to expand our pipeline of elite beach athletes.”

The athletes will also be evaluated for inclusion in the USAV Beach Elite Development program, targeting up-and-coming athletes with Olympic potential.

Jose Loiola, a 2000 Olympian in beach volleyball for Brazil who now coaches in USAV’s Beach High Performance Program, will serve as the head coach of the camp.

"I am thankful that I have the opportunity through USAV Beach programs to take what I have learned and pass it on to the new generation of beach volleyball competitors," Loiola said. “It is an honor to be part of this program because I am certain we are training the future of the sport of beach volleyball and I will be proud to see my athletes’ results."

Athletes interested in participating in USAV Beach High Performance programs should attend a High Performance Tryout. The 2013 tryout schedule is still being finalized and will be posted to the USA Volleyball web site.
