COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 14, 2012) – The U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team held on to the top spot in the FIVB World Ranking despite finishing second to Brazil at the 2012 Olympic Games, while the U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team maintained its fifth spot to match its Olympic Games finish.

On the women’s side, Olympic gold-medalist Brazil continues to be ranked second in the world, while Japan gained two spots to third. Italy is ranked fourth ahead of fifth-place China, which dropped two spots. Russia, which gained three spots, is ranked sixth and ahead of Turkey. Dominican Republic rose three spots to eighth place, while Serbia dropped two spots to ninth and Germany fell four places to 10th. Korea pushed ahead four positions to 11th after a fourth-place finish at the Olympics.

On the men’s side, Brazil and Russia held firm as No. 1 and No. 2 in the world ranking, which is the reverse outcome of the 2012 Olympic Games. Italy moved up three spots to third place, while Poland fell one spot to fourth. After fifth-place USA is Cuba, which dropped two positions. Serbia stayed even at No. 7, while Bulgaria gained one spot to eighth place. Argentina dropped one slot to No. 9, while Germany remained even at No. 10. Australia jumped 11 spots to No. 11.
