COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 17, 2012) – Eight U.S. beach volleyball players will help the U.S. Olympic Committee celebrate 100 days until the 2012 Olympic Games in London on Wednesday, April 18, in Times Square in New York City.

The Road to London Celebration presented by Hilton HHonors will transform Times Square into a festive Olympic Village for one day, complete with dozens of athletes, sport demonstrations, giveaways, autograph sessions, interactive sport experiences, and more than just a touch of London.

A beach volleyball court has been constructed in Times Square and U.S. athletes Christal Engle (Puyallup, Wash.), Evan Engle (Cedarville, Mich.), Jenn Fopma (Bellflower, Calif.), Jess Gysin (Los Gatos), Whitney Pavlik (Laguna Beach, Calif.), Jesse Rambis (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), Stafford Slick (Andover, Minn.) and Steven VanderWerp (Grand Haven, Mich.) will compete against each other and other selected opponents.

“It's a true honor to be able to represent the sport of beach volleyball at the upcoming Road to London Celebration in New York,” Slick said. “The Olympic Games unite our country through sport. Holding this celebration in an iconic venue like Times Square will definitely spark excitement for the Games in London. I look forward to showcasing beach volleyball alongside all the other fantastic sports and athletes that will be representing the United States this summer!”

The U.S. Women’s Sitting Volleyball Team will also be among the 73 athletes scheduled to participate in the celebration, which will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
