U.S. Beach Teams Take Silver, Bronze in Israel

HAIFA, Israel (April 6, 2012) – Two U.S. beach volleyball teams won medals on Thursday at the Technion Challenge, an FIVB-sanctioned exhibition event in Haifa, Israel.

The U.S. men’s team of Matt Fuerbringer (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Nick Lucena (Santa Barbara, Calif.) took the silver medal after falling in the final match to Germany’s Kay Matysik and Jonathan Erdman, 21-18, 21-19.

The U.S. women’s team of Lauren Fendrick (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Brooke Hanson (Woodland Hills, Calif.) won the bronze medal, defeating Germany’s Britta Buthe and Karla Borger in the third-place match, 21-13, 17-21, 17-15

Czech Republic’s Lenka Hajkova and Hana Klapalova won the women’s gold medal over Belgium’s Liesbeth Mouha and Katrein Gielen, 21-13, 21-17.

Latvians Martins Plavins and Aleksandrs Samoilovs took men’s bronze, beating Brazilian veteran Benjamin Insfrans and young partner Alvaro Filho, 21-15, 21-18.
