U.S. Beach Team Finishes Tied for 5th

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 3, 2011) – The U.S. women’s junior beach volleyball team of Tara Roenicke and Rebecca Strehlow lost in the quarterfinals of the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch Junior (under-21) World Championships on Saturday in Halifax, Canada.
The U.S. team fell to Switzerland’s eighth-seeded Nina Betschart and Joana Heidrich, 21-9, 21-12 in 30 minutes on Saturday morning.
Roenicke (Alta Loma, Calif.), a defending junior world champion, and partner Strehlow (Long Beach, Calif.), who were ranked second in the main draw, finished the tournament tied for fifth.
The tournament semifinals were scheduled to be played later on Saturday with the finals on Sunday.
