COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 23, 2011) –The U.S. Men’s Sitting Volleyball Team defeated Canada 25-19, 21-25, 25-18, 25-15 during an exhibition match on Saturday at the University of Oklahoma (UCO).

The match was the second of two as part of a joint training camp between the two teams in preparation for the 2011 Parapan American Games taking place next month in Guadalajara, Mexico. The winner of the Games will qualify for the 2012 London Paralympics, making this training camp and competition extremely important for both teams.

James Stuck (New Kensington, Pa./Edmond, Okla.) led the U.S. with 14 points from 12 kills and two blocks while team captain Brent Rasmussen (Omaha, Neb.) contributed 12 points off of 11 kills and one block. Eric Duda (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Edmond, Okla.) posted 11 points off of nine kills, a single ace and a block.

“Tonight we were a little bit stronger at the net with our blocking, and the team did a good job of fighting through some long rallies against Canada,” Rasmussen said. “We also used a couple of different lineups in the match as we prepare for Parapan Ams, and it has given us a chance to figure out what is going to work best for us when we head to Mexico.”

In a bonus set, Canada beat the U.S. 15-11 while giving more players the opportunity and the experience of international play.

The two teams held one last joint practice session Sunday morning before heading home.
