Men's Sitting Team Beats Canada in Exhibition
Assistant, Media Relations and Publications
The exhibition match is part of a joint training camp between the two teams that are both preparing for the 2011 Parapan American Games taking place next month in Guadalajara, Mexico. The winner of the Games will qualify for the 2012 London Paralympics, making this training camp and competition extremely important for both teams.
Team captain Brent Rasmussen (Omaha, Neb.) led the team with 16 points on nine kills, five aces, and two blocks, while James Stuck (New Kensington, Pa./Edmond, Okla.) contributed 13 points on eight kills, three aces and two blocks. Eric Duda (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Edmond, Okla.) added 11 points on 11 kills.
“Canada gave us a good fight tonight and we really appreciate having them here to train and play against,” Rasmussen said. “This match gave us an opportunity to continue strengthening our team dynamics and work on our lineups as we set our eyes on winning the Parapan American Games.”
The two teams held a joint practice session on Oct. 22 before competing in their second exhibition match.
