COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 20, 2011) –The U.S. Men’s Sitting Volleyball Team will host Canada in two exhibition matches on Oct. 21 and 22 at the University of Central Oklahoma Wellness Center in Edmond, Okla., as both teams prepare for the 2011 Parapan American Games.
“This weekend is really important for us for preparing for the Parapan American Games,” team captain Brent Rasmussen (Omaha, Neb.) said. “We are favored to win the matches, but we want to make sure we win them with flawless play. My goal for the team is to play as clean as possible and with minimal errors.”
The Canadian men’s sitting team is making the trip to Edmond, as part of a joint training session with the U.S. Men’s Sitting Team. As part of a unique opportunity for international competition, the teams have scheduled two matches for the weekend to prepare for the Parapan American Games to be held Nov. 10-23 in Mexico, where the winner will earn a spot at the 2012 London Paralympic Games.
“It is difficult for us to play as many matches as we would like to in preparation for a big event like the Parapan American Games,” USAV Sitting Volleyball Director Bill Hamiter (Bethany, Okla.) said. “Hosting Canada is valuable way for both countries to be competition ready. It provides the players an opportunity to execute at a consistently high level, which they will have to be ready to do at the upcoming qualifying tournament. The team will be cementing it’s subbing and tactical schemes as well.”
The teams will face off on Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m. and on Oct. 22 at 3:30 p.m. The matches are open to the public and admission is free and attendance is greatly encouraged. For those unable to attend the matches, live streaming is available by clicking here.
“This will be our last camp before heading down to Mexico,” Rasmussen said. “Our goal is to play clean and error free on our side of the net.”
