COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 18, 2011) - The U.S. Men’s Sitting Volleyball Team couldn’t quite reach its goal on Friday and fell to Brazil, 20-25, 25-18, 25-12, 25-15 in front of a packed house in the final of the 2011 Parapan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

With the win, Brazil captured the gold medal and the 2012 Paralympic Games qualification spot The U.S men won the silver medal.

"The guys played their hearts out. We just couldn't sustain our consistency of play," U.S. Men's Sitting Team Head Coach Bill Hamiter said. "The team will now have to refocus and set our sight on qualifying at the Intercontinental Cup in March, 2012."

Brazil out-attacked the U.S. 51-38 and delivered seven aces while the U.S. charted two. Both teams posted nine blocks.

In the first match of the tournament the U.S. defeated Brazil and continued the tournament with an unblemished 6-0 record leading into final match.

Team captain Brent Rasmussen (Omaha, Neb.) led the U.S. men with 13 points from 10 kills and three blocks while Eric Duda (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Edmond, Okla.) posted nine points off of eight kills and one service ace. Rasmussen also charted a team-high 14 digs.

“No one wants to come in in second place,” Duda said. “But we will get back to training and get ready for our next tournament."

“Brazil is definitely a rival of ours,” added  Army veteran James Stuck (New Kensington, Pa./Edmond, Okla.). “We beat them in round-robin play, and we really wanted to beat them again for gold.”

Roderick Green (West Monroe, La./Edmond, Okla.) contributed nine points from six kills and three blocks.

Daniel Regan (St. Louis, Mo./Edmond, Okla.) connected on six kills for six points and Stuck secured five points from five kills. Stuck also posted a team-high four assists and 10 excellent receptions.

J. Dee Marinko (Newcastle, Okla.) contributed four points off of two kills one block and one service ace while Ed Laforest (San Juan, Puerto Rico) posted two blocks and one kill.

Ed O’Neil (Amherst, Mass./Edmond, Okla.) was the team libero with four digs and four excellent receptions.
