COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 16, 2011) -The U.S. Men’s Sitting Volleyball Team will head into the semifinal round undefeated after downing Colombia, 25-14, 25-15, 25-13 on Wednesday evening at the 2011 Parapan American Games in Guadalajara Mexico.

Team USA (5-0) will face Colombia for the second time on Thursday in the semifinal round at 7 p.m. CT.

On Wednesday night, just a few hours after the U.S. had swept Costa Rica, Eric Duda (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Edmond, Okla.) totaled 11 of  the Americans’ 33 kills, dominating over Costa Rica’s 18. The U.S. posted seven blocks to Costa Rica’s two and led in services aces 11-3.

Duda led the U.S. scorers with 17 total points with his 11 kills, two blocks and four service aces.  Charlie Swearingen (Gulfport, Miss./Edmond, Okla.) contributed 11 points off of five connections for kills, two blocks and four service aces. Team captain Brent Rasmussen (Omaha, Neb.) charted eight kills, one block and a service ace for 10 points. Rasmussen had a team-high nine digs and eight assists.

Also scoring for the U.S. was Edgardo Laforest (San Juan, Puerto Rico) with five points off of three kills, one block and one ace while Daniel Regan (St. Louis, Mo./Edmond, Okla.) posted four points with two kills, one block and one ace. James Stuck (New Kensington, Pa./Edmond, Okla.) played in two sets and posted three kills for three points and J. Dee Marinko (Newcastle, Okla.) delivered a single kill.

Ed O’Neil (Amherst, Mass./Edmond, Okla.) was the team libero and charted three digs and a team-high 12 excellent receptions.

The U.S. is currently in second place in the gold-medal count with 28 and is in third in total-medal winnings with 46 at the 2011 Parapan American Games. Brazil is leading both categories, 40-104.
