COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 15, 2011) - The U.S. Men’s Sitting Volleyball Team continued its dominant play at the 2011 Parapan American Games by defeating Canada 25-17, 20-25, 25-15, 25-23 on Tuesday in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Team USA holds a 3-0 record in the round-robin portion of the tournament, after defeating both Brazil and Mexico on Monday, the first day of competition.

The U.S. men tallied more kills than Canada with 44-32 while Canada edged the U.S. in blocks 7-4. Both teams charted seven service aces.

Eric Duda (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Edmond, Okla.) led all scorers, posting 16 off of a team-high 14 kills and a pair of aces. Team captain Brent Rasmussen (Omaha, Neb.) charted 11 points from 10 kills and a service ace.

James stuck (New Kensington, Pa./Edmond, Okla.) posted a team-high two blocks, six kills and a service ace for a nine-point total while Roderick Green (West Monroe, La./Edmond, Okla.) contributed eight points off of six kills, one block and one ace and J. Dee Marinko (Newcastle, Okla.) six points from five kills and one service ace.

Also scoring for the U.S. was Charlie Swearingen (Gulfport, Miss./Edmond, Okla.) and Edgardo Laforest (San Juan, Puerto Rico) who both posted a pair of points and Daniel Regan with a point. Ed O’Neil (Amherst, Mass./Edmond, Okla.) was the team libero with a team-high nine digs and 10 excellent receptions.

“This was one of those games that is a little more nerve-wracking than we would like,” said Swearingen. “We are not patting ourselves on the back yet. We have two teams to go before we get into semifinals, and we will continue to evolve and become a team that will go to London.”

The U.S. men will face Costa Rica (noon local time, 10 a.m. PT) and Columbia (8 p.m. local time, 6 p.m. PT) on Wednesday in hopes to earn a high seed in the semifinal round that will be played on Thursday. The sitting finals are slated for Friday.

The U.S. currently leads all countries in the gold-medal count with 15 and is in third in total-medal winnings with 28 earned at the 2011 Parapan American Games.
