COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 7, 2011) – USA Volleyball has hired Patricia Daugherty as its Coordinator for Beach High Performance and Development.
Daugherty will work part time from her home in Florida until she moves to Hermosa Beach, Calif., in January. She is taking the place of Jon Aharoni who has opted to spend more time coaching with USAV’s Youth Beach National Team and teaching USAV Beach Coaching Accreditation Program (BCAP) courses as a contractor.
“This is a win-win situation for USAV Beach,” said USAV Director of Beach Programs Ali Wood Lamberson. “We are able to get Jon onto the sand and in the classroom more, where his heart and talent are. We bring Patchi in to help increase our level of productivity in the office. Most of the kids in our program already know her, so it will be a very smooth transition for everyone.”
Daugherty’s responsibilities will include coordinating beach high performance camps, championships, and tryouts and managing the athlete evaluation database.
"I am very happy to be part of the USAV Beach staff in the office as well,” Daugherty said. “I have been part of the high performance camps for many years and also a national team beach coach, so I feel that will be an easy transition and beneficial to everyone involved. I am looking forward to what we can accomplish together in the USAV Beach office for the many years to come!"
Daugherty is a native of Brazil and a graduate of Florida Gulf Coast University, where she has also volunteered as a sand volleyball coach. She has also worked at volleyball camps at the University of Southern California, Fort Hays State University and Hutchinson Community College.
Daugherty has coached at various USA Volleyball beach camps and clinics since 2009 and was a national team coach for the under-17 squad.
She has served as the lead coach for two-time Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor’s M2 Volleyball Camps and Clinics. She is also a co-owner and director of USA South Beach Volleyball in southwest Florida.
On the indoor side, she has coached at Brethren Christian High School, taking it to the CIF small schools state tournament for the first time in the school's history, and Foothill High School in Southern California, and with the Surf City and Locals Only volleyball clubs.
