COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 4, 2011) – The U.S. Women’s National Team summer training block started May 2 at the team’s training headquarters at the American Sports Centers in Anaheim, Calif.

As of May 4, U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach Hugh McCutcheon (Christchurch, New Zealand) and his staff are training 19 players with additional athletes to join the group upon completion of their overseas club seasons.

The current group includes setters Alisha Glass (Leland, Mich.), Jenna Hagglund (West Chester, Ohio), Carli Lloyd (Bonsall, Calif.) and Courtney Thompson (Kent, Wash.). Liberos currently training are Kayla Banwarth (Dubuque, Iowa) and Tamari Miyashiro (Kaneohe, Hawaii). Opposites currently training are Kindra Carlson (Eaton, Colo.) and Destinee Hooker (San Antonio, Texas).

The middle blocker group includes Alexis Crimes (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.), Jessica Jones (Naperville, Ill.), Lauren Gibbemeyer (St. Paul, Minn.), Danielle Scott-Arruda (Baton Rouge, La.), Tracy Stalls (Denver, Colo.) and Elisha Thomas (Grass Valley, Calif.). Outside hitters in the gym are Cynthia Barboza (Long Beach, Calif.), Jill Collymore (Bellevue, Wash.), Angie Forsett (Lake Mary, Fla.), Alix Klineman (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Becky Perry (Austin, Texas).

The U.S. Women’s National Team begins international competition at the Montreux VolleyMasters, which is being held June 7-12 in Montreux, Switzerland. Team USA will compete in the X Women’s Pan American Cup July 1-9 at Cuidad Juarez and Chihuahua, Mexico. The Americans will compete in the FIVB World Grand Prix with preliminary rounds in China (Aug. 5-7), Japan (Aug. 12-14) and Chinese Taipei (Aug. 19-21). The World Grand Prix Final Round will be staged Aug. 24-28 at Macau, China.

The NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship, a qualifier into the FIVB World Cup, will be played Sept. 10-18 at Caguas, Puerto Rico. Team USA will compete at the Pan American Games Oct. 14-20 in Mexico. The FIVB World Cup, the first 2012 Olympic Games qualifying event, will be played in various Japanese cities between Nov. 4 and Nov. 18.
