COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 14, 2010) – The U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team held a second inter-squad scrimmage on Sept. 11 at Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Calif.
The Red Team, which started Sean Rooney (Wheaton, Ill.) and Reid Priddy (Richmond, Va.) at outside hitter, David Lee (Alpine, Calif.) and Max Holt (Cincinnati, Ohio) at middle blocker, Clay Stanley (Honolulu, Hawaii) at opposite, Kevin Hansen (Newport Beach, Calif.) at setter and Rich Lambourne (Tustin, Calif.) at libero, won the scrimmage 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-22).
Riley Salmon (League City, Texas) took over for Priddy at outside hitter in the second set.
The Blue Team started Matt Anderson (West Seneca, N.Y.) and Paul Lotman (Lakewood, Calif.) at outside hitter, Russell Holmes (Fountain Valley, Calif.) and David Smith (Saugus, Calif.) at middle blocker, Carson Clark (Santa Barbara, Calif.) at opposite, Jonathan Winder (Irvine, Calif.) at setter and Alfee Reft (Santa Ana, Calif.) at libero.
Evan Patak (Pleasanton, Calif.) also played at opposite for the Blue Team. Kawika Shoji (Honolulu, Hawaii) played as a serving substitute.
According to the DataVolley statistics, the Blue Team’s Anderson led all scorers with 22 points on 18 kills (0.47 hitting percentage), two blocks and two aces. Stanley added 19 points for the Red Team on 15 kills (0.35 hitting percentage), two blocks and two aces.
Clark scored 14 points for the Blue Team on 13 kills (0.27 hitting percentage) and one block.
Lotman had 13 points for the Blue Team on 12 kills (0.38 hitting percentage) and one block. Lee had 13 points for the Red Team on eight kills (0.43 hitting percentage), four blocks and one ace.
Holt scored 12 points for the Red Team on nine kills (0.47 hitting percentage), two blocks and one ace. Holmes totaled 11 points for the Blue Team on eight kills (0.36 hitting percentage) and three blocks.
Rooney scored 10 points for the Red Team on five kills, four blocks and one ace.
Salmon and Priddy each scored five points for the Red Team on five kills each. Hansen scored five points on one kills, two blocks and two aces.
Smith scored four points for the Blue Team on three kills and one ace.
For the Blue Team, Lambourne was credited with 38 receptions, 79 percent positive and 55 percent excellent with no errors. Rooney had 24 receptions, 67 percent positive and 42 percent excellent with two errors.
For the Red Team, Lotman was credited with 37 receptions, 76 percent positive and 51 percent excellent with two errors. Reft had 25 receptions, 56 percent positive and 44 percent excellent with three errors. Anderson had 21 receptions, 57 percent positive and 48 percent excellent with three errors.
The U.S. Men’s Team will leave for Italy on Friday (Sept. 17) and will train with an Italian club team before it begins World Championship competition on Sept. 25 in Reggio Calabria.
