COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 26, 2010) – The U.S. Women’s National A2 Program has been split into two 12-player rosters that will compete in the USA Volleyball Open National Championships at the Phoenix Convention Center.

The two teams, which are training May 24-28 in Tempe, Ariz., will compete in the Open Division that takes place May 29-June 1. The USA Volleyball Open National Championships, in its 81st year, continues through June 5.

The U.S. Women’s National A2 Blue Team has setters Carli Lloyd (University of California, Bonsall, Calif.) and Evan Sanders (Colorado State University, Lafayette, Colo.). Middle blockers on the team are Rachael Adams (University of Texas, Cincinnati, Ohio), Jen Doris (University of Texas, Houston) and Lindsay Fletemier (University of Dayton, Garden City, Mich.). Outside hitters are Julian Faucette (University of Texas, San Diego), Nikki Fowler (University of Tennessee, Dallas), Tarah Murrey (University of California, El Cerrito, Calif.) and Juliane Piggot (UC Irvine, Newport Beach, Calif.). The opposite on the squad is Ali Troost (University of San Diego, Hemet, Calif.), while the liberos are Sydney Yogi (University of Texas, Honolulu) and Ashley Mass (Iowa State University, Muskego, Wis.). University of Texas, the 2009 NCAA Division I National Tournament runner-up, has a third of the A2 Blue Team members.

The U.S. Women’s National A2 Red Team features outside hitters Kelsey Black (Texas A&M, Amarillo, Texas), Laura DeBruler (University of Illinois, Downers Grove, Ill.), Kanani Danielson (University of Hawaii, Ewa Beach, Hawaii) and Whitney Dosty (University of Arizona, Tucson, Ariz.). Middle Blockers on the A2 Red Team are Alyssa Davis (Auburn University, Oakland Park, Fla.), Sabel Moffett (Northwestern University, Temecula, Calif.) and Dominique Olowolafe (Cal Poly, Lansing, Mich.). Setting for A2 Red will be Kelly Murphy (University of Florida, Wilmington, Ill.) and Paige Weber (University of Arizona, Indianapolis, Ind.). The opposite is Monique Mead (Georgia Tech, Newnan, Ga.), while the liberos are Ellie Blankenship (University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and Laurie Gonzalez (University at Albany, Carolina, Puerto Rico).

The A2 players, all of whom have remaining collegiate eligibility for 2010, were selected as part of the U.S. Women’s National Team Open Tryouts held Feb. 19-21 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. A record total of 175 athletes competed in the Open Tryout.

USA Volleyball will be showcasing its Open National Championships for the 81st year since the organization’s founding in 1928. Except for 1943 and 1944 during the height of World War II, the Open has been a mainstay celebrating adult volleyball nationally. The event is one of the largest national championships in any sport in the United States, and the Open has featured the sport of volleyball from coast-to-coast.

The USA Volleyball Open National Championships, which will use 40 courts inside the Phoenix Convention Center at its peak moments, has 19 championship divisions ranging from Open divisions in both genders, skill-level divisions below Open, age-specific championships per gender going all the way to 75-and-Older for men and 70-and-Older for women, co-ed championships, U-Volley (height restricted) championships and a Special Olympic division.

The 2010 USA Volleyball Open National Championships will have 557 teams participating with approximately 6,000 participants. The first session (May 29-June 1) will have 336 teams, while the second session (June 2-5) will have 221 teams. The second session, in which this team will be participating, will have 221 teams.

Admission is free to the USA Volleyball Open National Championships.
