Kessy, Ross Earn Bronze in Barcelona

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 13, 2009) – Jen Kessy (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and April Ross (Costa Mesa, Calif.) defeated Angie Akers (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Tyra Turner (Fort Myers Beach, Fla.) 21-13, 21-19 in 43 minutes during an All-American bronze-medal match at the SWATCH/FIVB World Beach Tour Barcelona Open on Sunday.

Kessy and Ross have now medaled in 10 of their last 13 FIVB starts. With the victory, they will split third-place prize money of $15,000, while Akers and Turner split $11,200.

Kessy and Ross have now earned victories over Akers and Turner seven times in as many meetings in 2009, including a 21-17, 30-28 victory in the third round of the Barcelona Open.

Brazil’s Larissa Franca and Juliana Felisberta Silva defeated countrywomen Talita Antunes and Maria Antonelli 21-17, 28-26 in the All-Brazil gold-medal match.

The 2009 SWATCH FIVB World Tour features $7.2-million in prize money and continues through the end of October for the men with a double-gender stop in Sanya, China. After the Sanya stop, the women’s season finale is the first week of November in Phuket, Thailand.
