COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 31, 2009) – The USA Volleyball beach team of Matt Fuerbringer (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Casey Jennings (Las Vegas, Nev.) took silver while U.S. Olympians Jake Gibb (Bountiful, Utah) and Sean Rosenthal (Redondo Beach, Calif.) won bronze on Sunday at the US$190,000 Myslowice Open in Poland, part of the SWATCH FIVB World Tour.

In the gold medal match, 12th-ranked Fuerbringer and Jennings fell to top-seeded Brazilians Alison Cerutti and Harley Marques, 0-2 (23-25, 17-21).

“Playing against such a great team has been an honor, as well having two USA teams on the podium,”
Fuerbringer said in an FIVB release.  “It’s our best result in an FIVB event, but of course next time we hope to beat the Brazilians. Promoters, spectators, I think everyone enjoyed the show.”

Fuerbringer and Jennings shared the $21,000 second-place prize.

In the bronze medal contest, 15th-seeded Gibb and Rosenthal defeated Germany’s third-seeded Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann for the second time in the tournament, 2-0 (21-16, 21-19) in 50 minutes. Gibb and Rosenthal split $15,000 for third place.

The last-time the United States placed two teams on a men’s SWATCH FIVB World Tour podium was at a 2006 Mexican event in Acapulco at the end of October when Gibb and Rosenthal captured the gold medal by upsetting Brazil’s Emanuel Rego and Ricardo Santos in the finals with Americans Phil Dalhausser (Ormond Beach, Fla.) and Todd Rogers (Santa Barbara, Calif.) placing third.

The SWATCH FIVB World Tour now breaks for more than three weeks before resuming play on June 25 at the 2009 SWATCH FIVB World Championships in Stavanger, Norway. The finals are July 4 for women and July 5 for men.
