U.S. Sitting Teams Sweep Canada for Second Day

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 29, 2009) – The U.S. Men’s and Women’s Sitting Volleyball Teams took two more matches from their Canadian hosts at the Parapan American Zonal Championship on Friday at the McGill University Athletic Complex in Montreal.

The U.S. Men’s Sitting Team opened the competition on Friday with a 3-0 (28-26, 25-15, 25-23) victory.
U.S. Head Coach Bill Hamiter (Bethany, Okla.) started Brent Rasmussen (Omaha, Neb.), Roderick Green (West Monroe, La.), Eric Duda (Gainesville, Fla.), James Stuck (New Kensington, Pa.), Brad Johnson (Pompano Beach, Fla.), Edgar Laforest (Puerto Rico) and libero Matt Johnson (Omaha, Neb.). All the players on the team saw action in the match.

"Passing and serving are strengths for us on this trip,” Hamiter said. “For us to continue to raise our level of play, we need to improve our offense by limiting our errors."
Duda scored 13 points on eight kills, two blocks and three aces. Laforest and Rasmussen added eight points each.  Johnson was 62 percent perfect on his passes. 

Serving was a strong point for the team with 10 aces and four errors for the match.

The U.S. Women’s Sitting Team defeated Canada in the second match, 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-12).

Hamiter started Lora Webster (Cave Creek, Ariz.), Katie Holloway (Lake Stevens, Wash.), Heather Erickson (Fayetteville, N.C.), Allison Aldrich (Schuyler, Neb.), Nichole Millage (Champaign, Ill.), Alex Gouldie (St. Paul, Neb.) and libero Kari Miller (Washington, D.C.). All members of the team saw playing time.

The U.S. Women served well with 23 aces and only six errors. Holloway led the scoring with nine points and Aldrich with eight. Webster, Millage and Gouldie each contributed six points. Millage led the passing with 67 percent “perfect” passes.
