Olympians Dominate AVP Huntington Beach

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 24, 2009) – USA Volleyball 2008 Olympic gold medalists Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers won their fourth domestic title of the 2009 season at the AVP Crocs Tour event in Huntington Beach, Calif., on Sunday.

Dalhausser (Ormond Beach, Fla.) and Rogers (Santa Barbara, Calif.), seeded first, defeated fellow 2008 Olympians, second-ranked Jake Gibb (Bountiful, Utah) and Sean Rosenthal (Redondo Beach, Calif.), 2-0 (22-20, 21-17) in 59 minutes in Sunday’s final. Dalhausser and Rogers were undefeated in the tournament. Gibb and Rosenthal did not lose until the final.

In the women’s final on Sunday, top-ranked 2008 Olympians Nicole Branagh (Orinda, Calif.) and Elaine Youngs (El Toro, Calif.) beat second-seeded Jen Kessy (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and April Ross (Costa Mesa, Calif.), 2-0 (21-19, 21-17) in 54 minutes.

Branagh and Youngs also went undefeated in the tournament. Kessy and Ross lost only the final.

The next stop on the AVP Tour will be in Atlanta on May 29-31.
