COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 10, 2009) – Seventy-seven teams converged on Galveston, Texas on May 9 for the Texas Open, part of USA Volleyball’s Beach Junior Tour.
In the girls’ 18-and-under division, Kelsey Odom (Grapevine, Texas) and partner Taylor Nyquis (Colleyville, Texas) defeated Malorie Pardo (League City, Texas) and partner Shelbee Berringer (Dickinson, Texas), 25-13 in the gold medal match. Lexi Erwin (Spring, Texas) and Bethany Yeager (Brenham, Texas) placed third.
In the girls’ 16-and-under grouping, Tanna Aljoe (Colleyville, Texas) and Caitlin Nolan (Southlake, Texas) beat Shannon Dulaney (Colleyville, Texas) and Monica Shockley (Carrollton, Texas), 25-17 in the gold medal match. Sydney and Kiersten Braasch (Colleyville, Texas) placed third.
The girls’ 14-and-under division was won by Haley Morton (Pearland, Texas) and Katarina Morton (Pearland, Texas), who defeated Kylie Goble (Fort Worth, Texas) and Mary Kate Nawalaniec (Southlake, Texas), 25-9 in the gold medal match. Catherine McCoy (Southlake, Texas) and Allison Bond (Southlake, Texas) placed third.
Hannah Hejl (College Station, Texas) and Meghan Bauman (College Station, Texas) won the girls’ 12-and-under division, beating Karsen Ross (McDade, Texas) and Keaton Schrank (College Station, Texas), 25-21 in the final. Sarah Hancock (College Station, Texas) and Madison Smith (Caldwell, Texas) finished third.
Austin Reid (Galveston, Texas) and Zack Davis (Houston, Texas) were the lone boys’ team to compete.
