COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 29, 2009) – Forty-five beach volleyball teams participated in USAV’s second International Development Qualifier on June 27-28 in Long Beach, Calif.
The IDQ was the second of two that USAV held to identify elite beach athletes for entry into select international events – both FIVB and NORCECA – and other USAV high performance beach programs.
To qualify, teams competed in a pool play tournament with some advancing from each pool into a single-elimination playoff.
“I was very pleased with the results of both International Development Qualifiers,” said Ali Wood Lamberson, USAV’s Director of Beach Programs. “We are getting young U.S. teams excited about participating in international competition.”
The winning women’s team consisted of Kathleen Olsovsky (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) and Jenny Pavley (Redondo Beach, Calif.). Paige Davis (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) and Brooke Langston (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) took second and the team of Keao Burdine (Pico Rivera, Calif.) and Jenelle Koester (Hermosa Beach, Calif.).
The winning men’s team was John Moran (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Ivan Mercer (Los Angeles, Calif.). Duncan Budinger (Encinitas, Calif.) and Dane Jensen (Redondo Beach, Calif.) took second and in third place were Vince Zanzucchi (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Matt Vanzant (Long Beach, Calif.).
