Beach Junior Tour Moves on to Michigan, Texas

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 8, 2009) – Junior volleyball teams from the Midwest and Great Lakes regions descended on Muskegon, Mich., to take part in the USA Beach Volleyball Great Lakes Open on Saturday, June 6.

The tournament is part of the USA Beach Volleyball Junior Tour, a series of beach volleyball events held around the country. Age divisions range from under-12 to under-20.

Catherine Brusie (Muskegon, Mich.) and Jordan Fish (North Branch, Mich.) defeated Mindy Marx (Grand Haven, Mich.) and Bri Soule (Grand Haven, Mich.), 21-18, to claim the U-18 girls division crown. Lindsey Adams (Schoolcraft, Mich.) and Alisha Lang (Schoolcraft, Mich.) took the third spot with a 21-15 win.

The duo of Oakley Shane (Norwalk, Ohio) and Madison Williams (Tiffin, Ohio) blanked Breanna Geile (Muskegon, Mich.) and Lauren Hazekamp (Fruitport, Mich.), 2-0 (23-21, 21-15), to win the U-16 girls division. Niki Polce (New Boston, Mich.) and Carli Snyder (Macomb, Mich.) came in third.

The Michigan team of Chris Schorsch (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Spencer Wiley (Holland, Mich.) won the U-16 boys division with a victory over Branden Clemens (Carmel, Ind.) and Brendan Duff (Lebanon, Ind.). Schorsch and Wiley shut out the pair from Indiana, 2-0 (21-19, 21-19).

In the U-14 Boys Division, Adam and Aaron Miller (Lowell, Ind.) defeated Evan Gebert (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Parker Saenz (Muskegon, Mich.) 2-1 (19-21, 21-7, 15-10).

The next event on the tour, the Mid-South Open, was held the next day in Dallas, Texas.

Annie Aspenson (Flower Mound, Texas) and Liz Theesfeld (Flower Mound, Texas) defeated Taylor Nyquist (Colleyville, Texas) and Kelsey Odom (Grapevine, Texas) to take the U-18 girls title. Bekah Dorsey (Mansfield, Texas) and Leslie Jackson (Mansfield, Texas) came in third.

Twin sisters Kiersten and Sydney Braasch (Colleyville, Texas) won the girls U-16 division with a victory over Lexa Corbin (Midlothian, Texas) and Tadam Mergener (Midlothian Texas). Shelby Marshall and Lakin O’Dell (Haslet, Texas) finished in third.

Allison Bond (Southlake Texas) and Catherine McCoy (Southlake, Texas) defeated Courtney Ensch and Avery Stevens to win the girls U-14 division. Kimmie Gardner and Lexie Cassels finished third.
