COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 5, 2009) – There is still time to register for USA Volleyball’s second International Development Qualifier (IDQ) on June 27-28 at Marina Green Park in Long Beach, Calif.
The IDQ is a tournament to identify elite beach athletes for entry into select international events and other USAV High Performance beach programs.
Teams that finish IDQ events among the top four will get the opportunity to represent the United States in select FIVB and NORCECA events.
“We are trying to get more U.S. players competing internationally,” said Ali Wood Lamberson, USA Volleyball’s director of beach programs. “We are happy that the AVP is working with us to make this happen.”
The AVP will grant dispensation to athletes in good standing individually ranked below a certain mark (pending an AVP final decision) in order to compete in conflicting FIVB and NORCECA events.
The cost is $30 per person per event and a Mikasa FIVB ball will be used. The event format will be pool play with a double-elimination playoff.
The events are open to all beach athletes. Contracted AVP athletes must confirm eligibility based on rank with the AVP prior to the competition. AVP rank is at date of registration.
All participants must hold a valid U.S. passport, be a member in good standing of USA Volleyball and may not be currently registered as a member of another country’s volleyball federation.
