Women's Sitting Team Wins Eurocup

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 16, 2009) – The U.S. Women’s Sitting Volleyball team shocked the host Netherlands in the gold medal match of the Eurocup, sweeping the Dutch, 25-16, 25-7, 25-12.

The large partisan crowd was never a factor as the U.S. Women’s Sitting Team jumped out early and never let the host team in the match. 
Head Coach Bill Hamiter (Bethany, Okla.) was very pleased.

“This was a great win for the ladies and a huge step forward for our program,” Hamiter said. “It’s a good indicator of the progress of our team as we set our sights on winning a World Championship and a gold medal in the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.  I am excited to see the tea m play as well as they did and to witness some amazing individual performances.” 

Leading the United States statistically was Katie Holloway (Lake Stevens, Wash.) and Brenda Maymon (Sellersburg, Ind.), each with 11 points. Lora Webster (Cave Creek, Ariz.) added nine points and Heather Erickson (Fayetteville, N.C.) and Nicole Millage (Champaign, Ill.) each scored eight.

Holloway was named the tournament’s best blocker. Erickson won best hitter. Allison Aldrich (Schuyler, Neb.) was named best server and Kari Miller (Washington, D.C.) was name best libero.

  1. USA defeats The Netherlands 3-0 ( Finals)
  2. Russia defeats Slovenia 3-2 (third-place match)
  3. Germany defeats Finland 3-0 (fifth-place match)
