COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 13, 2009) - The U.S. Women's Sitting Volleyball Team has gone 1-1 in its first two matches of the 2009 Eurocup Sitting Volleyball Championship in Roermond, Netherlands.

On Sunday, the U.S. Women's Sitting Team opened the competition with a convincing 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-20) win against Finland.

The United States was led by Allison Aldrich (Schuyler, Neb.) with 10 point. It won with strong passing accuracy (61 percent excellent) and serving (15 aces  and seven errors)

On Monday, the U.S. Women's Sitting Team suffered a hard-fought loss as it dropped a five-set (20-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-22 and 14-16) match to Slovenia.

The American team was led by Katie Holloway (Lake Stevens, Wash.) who notched 18 points on 12 kills, four blocks and two aces. Lora Webster provided 15 points.

The United States out-blocked Slovenia 17 -7, but Slovenia out-served the Americans with 16-8 aces.

The final set was tied 14-14 with the USA serving. After a Slovenian side out and a hitting error the Slovenians walked away with the victory.

U.S. Head Coach Bill Hamiter (Bethany, Okla.) was encouraged with the team's efforts against a quality opponent and says this experience should prove beneficial as they continue through the tough Eurocup field.

"We struggled from the service line in the first three sets and we did not attack exceptionally well, but played with enough heart to win one of those sets.  I thought we turned it around in the fourth and fifth sets, serving well and playing better all around".

Team USA is scheduled to play Finland at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Roermond.  The double, round-robin format will provide for a rematch with Slovenia on Wednesday morning. This match will determine the top seed in bracket play, which begins Wednesday afternoon.
