MIAMI, Fla. (July 4, 2009) – The 30th USA Junior Olympic Girls’ Volleyball Championships, hosted by USA Volleyball at the Miami Beach Convention Center, crowned three champions in 18-and-under age division brackets on Friday as the 10-day event runs from June 26 to July 5.

Nebraska Juniors 18-1 (Great Plains) defeated Wave 18Brenn Spalding (Southern California) 25-15, 25-18, 25-18 in the 18 Open Division final. Nebraska Juniors 18-1 topped Vision 18 Gold (Northern California) 28-26, 25-16, 25-16 in the semifinals and Sports Shack 18-Asics (Southern California) 15-25, 25-20, 25-13, 25-19 in the quarterfinals. Wave 18Brenn Spalding (Southern California) reached the gold-medal match by downing Laguna 18 MS (Southern California) 25-22, 29-31, 25-19, 25-23 in the semifinals and Circle City 18 Purple (Hoosier) 27-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-16.

AVA TX 18 Performance (Lone Star) handed Santa Barbara 18-Blue (Southern California) a 25-20, 25-18 loss to win the 18 National title. AVA TX 18 Performance gained its gold-medal berth by defeating TAV 18 Molten (North Texas) 25-21, 25-21 in the semifinals and Cincy Classics 18 Red (Ohio Valley) 25-17, 25-20 in the quarterfinals. Santa Barbara 18-Blue defeated City Beach 18 Black 25-20, 25-19 in the quarterfinals and Maverick A.C.E. 18 M (Ohio Valley) 25-19, 25-13 in the semifinals.

Texas Tornados 18 Mizuno (Lone Star) captured the 18 American title after defeating Golden Bear 18 FF (Northern California) 20-25, 25-11, 15-11 in the gold-medal match. Texas Tornados 18 Mizuno downed Pinellas Heat 18 Elite (Florida) 25-23, 25-17 in the semifinals and Southwest Minnesota Juniors (North Country) 25-22, 25-18 in the quarterfinals. Golden Bear 18 FF topped NKYVC 18-1 Tsunami (Ohio Valley 25-21, 26-24 in the quarterfinals and Laguna 18 Tuan (Southern California) 21-25, 25-23, 15-9 in the semifinals.

The 14 Open, 14 National and 14 American Division champions will be the next group to be declared winners on July 4.

This year’s USA Junior Olympic Girls’ Volleyball Championships includes 9,500 athletes from 788 teams. The tournament will crown 19 champions in age divisions ranging from 12-18. Open Division titles are disputed for the 14s, 15s, 16s, 17s and 18s, while National Division and American Division contests championships for all seven age groups.
