COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 5, 2009) – USA Volleyball has announced its schedule for the 2009 Beach High Performance Tryouts (formerly known as the International Selection Camp), which are open to all beach athletes ages 14-25.
Selected athletes will comprise the Youth or Under-19, Junior or Under-21, and A2 or Under-26 Beach National Teams representing the United States in international competitions and beach high performance camps.
The FIVB U19 Beach World Championships are scheduled to be held Aug. 16-24 in Alanya, Turkey. The U21 Beach World Championships are scheduled for Aug. 30-Sept. 7 in Monterrey, Mexico. The dates and site of the U26 event have not yet been confirmed.
A training team of eight athletes for each event will be chosen. From that group, two teams per gender will be selected to travel to the event.
The tryouts will be led by USAV beach staff. Beach volleyball experience is a plus but not required. All athletes will receive a written evaluation to be mailed after the camp. Athletes are responsible for their own transportation and accommodations.
Please note that international beach age classifications differ from USA Volleyball junior club age definitions and also from grade classifications of U.S. school systems.
A2 or U-26: Born between 1984-1988
Junior or U21: Born in 1989 and 1990

** Michigan tryout is built around the AAU indoor event. If you are participating in the AAU event, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as you have your club schedule for Saturday to let us know which beach tryout shift you will attend. You are then invited back to an optional beach scrimmage day on Sunday May 31, any time between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. If you are not participating in the AAU indoor event, you are welcome to come to both shifts.

High Performance Holiday Camp
The Beach High Performance Holiday Camp for invited elite level athletes who excel at the Beach High Performance Tryouts will be held at The Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. on Dec. 28-30. Ages 14-20. Details to be confirmed.
For NCAA student-athletes: The Beach High Performance Tryouts, USAV-sanctioned Beach National Team tryouts, are in compliance with NCAA regulations. Refer questions to your institution’s compliance counselor who may call the NCAA membership services interpretation hotline with questions.
NCAA athletes are required to inform their head coach that they are attending the tryouts in advance. If selected for a National Team event, NCAA athletes must receive proper clearance from their university’s athletic department no fewer than 45 days prior to departure if the event conflicts with any academic or athletic dates.
Athletes who are attending the tryouts for training purposes only, and are unable to attend the FIVB World Championship events if selected, should make this known upon registration.
